Workshops for international employees

Welcome Point prepared two workshops for UW international employees. One is related to cultural orientation and the Polish culture (on 22nd November), and the second concerns practical information on the structure and culture of the University of Warsaw. The registration deadline is 14th November.

The Survey by the University Team for Quality of Education Assurance for University Teachers

The University of Warsaw will be holding the third edition of the survey on the evaluation of the implementing of the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The questionnaire will be available between the 1st and 24th December, 2021.

Workshop for long-term students from abroad

On 26th November, the UW Welcome Point will organise a workshop on setting goals for personal growth. It is open to international students. The registration closes on 15th November.

IDUB training courses in cooperation with the publisher Springer Nature

UW employees and doctoral candidates can take part in the latest online training courses, as part of the following “Excellence Initiative – Research University” (IDUB) in cooperation with the Springer Nature publishing house. Registrations for the course “Journal Editors” close on 5th November.

UW collaborates with EIT Health

The University of Warsaw will join EIT Health that connects business, research and education to bring innovative, real-world health solutions to market to enhance the health of citizens. “I hope that joint educational projects will contribute to the transformation of healthcare systems”, stresses Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw.

4EU+ Annual Meeting 2021

Every year, the 4EU+ Alliance organises its Annual Meeting. This year the event will be held from 3rd to 5th November in Heidelberg, Germany. The General Assembly will be transmitted via livestream.

Dr. Aneta Afelt awarded with the Nicolaus Copernicus’ medal

Dr. Aneta Afelt from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling of the University of Warsaw is among the members of the interdisciplinary COVID-19 Advisory Team that received the Nicolaus Copernicus’ medal of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

4EU+ workshops on Open Science

What is Open Science? What happens with a scientific publication between the time of writing and the formatted paper published in an academic journal? What are the Creative Commons licenses? These aspects of Open Science will be explored during a series of online workshops organised by the universities of the 4EU+ Alliance, including the University of Warsaw. Registration is open now.

Medical examinations for UW employees

UW employees can register for free of charge lung ultrasound examinations and consultations with a dermatologist by 5th November.

In 2021, DeepMind scholarships are to be awarded for the second time

Two 2-year grants are addressed to women interested in conducting master's studies focused on machine learning at the University of Warsaw. The application deadline has been extended to 26th October.

IDUB research infrastructure available to UW scientists

In spring 2021, 14 scientific groups obtained funding for the purchase of new research infrastructure from the “Excellence Initiative – Research University’ Programme” (IDUB). The first equipment has already been purchased – eight eye trackers requested by the Faculty of Psychology. They have been tested and are ready to use.

Multicultural meetings about Poland

UW students involved in the Volunteer Centre of the University of Warsaw have prepared various multicultural meetings regarding Poland that will take place both on-site and online. They will be held between 18th and 26th October.

Establishment of PCMA UW Research Centre in Cyprus

The Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw will set up a research centre in Paphos, Cyprus, where the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw expeditions have been working for over half a century. It will be the third foreign research post of the centre.

Cultural Orientation Workshops at UW 2021

Welcome Point will organise “Cultural Orientation Workshops”. Its main goal is to provide all newcomers at the University of Warsaw with tools that will ease their life in a new place at the very beginning. The event will be held on 15th October.

The enigma of Palaeozoic corals resolved

Prof. Mikołaj Zapalski from UW has contributed to the research on Palaeozoic corals. An international team of researchers has prepared a detailed analysis of perfectly preserved Oligophylloides corals from the Upper Devonian of Morocco and revealed that juvenile colonies have a skeleton that is anatomically very similar to that of some extant octocorals.

Tyre: Discovery of a new Roman Temple in the Phoenician port in Lebanon

Tyre, the Phoenician capital on the coast of Lebanon, is the site of the latest project with PCMA UW involvement. The international team researching this UNESCO World Heritage List city has recently finished a highly successful fieldwork season discovering the remains of a complex belonging to a Roman-period temple.

Online meeting with the UW Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Teaching: Coverage

The organisation of education, scholarships, residential halls were the most popular topics addressed during an online meeting with Prof. Sławomir Żółtek, the UW Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Teaching. The Facebook live is saved on the UW profile on Facebook. The recorded broadcast is available on the UW profile on YouTube channel and the UW profile on Facebook.

Inauguration of the 2021/2022 academic year

On 1st October, at 2. pm, the solemn ceremony of the new academic year at the University of Warsaw took place. Karol Husman, an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, working on robotics and machine learning, delivered the first academic lecture entitled “Unordered thoughts of machines”. The recorded inauguration is available on the UW website.
