Rector’s Distinctions for researchers

168 researchers from the University of Warsaw were honoured with the Rector’s Distinctions. The award ceremony took place on 2nd April at the Kazimierzowski Palace.

University Council 2025–2028

At the meeting on 5th March, the UW Senate elected a new composition of the University Council. It will include Prof. Mirosław Ząbek, Robert Dobrzycki, Prof. Roman Kapuscinski and Prof. Marek Karliner. An ex-officio member of the University Council is Mateusz Mossakowski, president of the UW Students’ Union Board.

57th anniversary of the student revolt at the University of Warsaw

March 1968 saw dramatic events at the University of Warsaw – student protests and their brutal pacification by the security apparatus of the Polish People’s Republic. On the 57th anniversary of those tragic days, a ceremony was held at the University’s main campus on Krakowskie Przedmieście to lay flowers under a plaque commemorating the events of March 1968.

Meeting with the Belgian Prime Minister and Nobel Prize winners in Davos

The possibilities of increasing Europe’s competitiveness through pioneering research and innovation were discussed by participants in one of the panels at the Belgium House in Davos, including Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the UW.

On development, education and commercialisation in Davos

“The UW, in cooperation with other leading Polish universities, is active in creating a strong domestic and foreign environment for supporting the development of both basic and applied research and the use of its results through commercialisation and the creation of start-ups,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, said.

On AI in the economy

“Poland has great development opportunities in terms of technology and innovation. We have a number of excellent academic centres in this respect that are recognised internationally. The University of Warsaw is among them,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the UW, said during a meeting at AI House.

Easter wishes from the UW Rector

On the occasion of the upcoming Easter, the Rector of the University of Warsaw wishes the entire Academic Community and Friends healthy, peaceful and family moments spent with their loved ones.

The University of Warsaw was an academic partner of the AI House and the Polish Business Hub, taking place during the World Economic Forum in Davos. The UW was represented by Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, Robert Grey, the UW Chancellor, and Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the UW’s Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics.

Cooperation between the UW and a Korean university

On 10th December, the University of Warsaw and Gangneung-Wonju National University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Both parties will develop mutual relations in fields such as education, research, and culture.

MoU between UW and HUST

The University of Warsaw has concluded a cooperation agreement with the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). The two institutions have expressed their desire to carry out joint research projects in areas such as physics, sinology, and political science. The agreement envisages, among other things, academic exchanges or joint cultural programmes.

Cooperation between the University of Warsaw and Harvard University

At the University of Warsaw, a meeting was held between Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak , the UW Rector, Prof. Agata Bareja-Starzyńska , the Dean of the UW’s Faculty of Oriental Studies, and Prof. Mark Elliott, the Vice Provost of International Affairs at Harvard University. The discussions concerned joint UW activities with Harvard University and other American universities.

Internationalisation as a tool for development

“We have done a lot in recent years to raise our recognition in Europe and internationally. However, we are aware that the needs are greater. We are proud of the development of international cooperation in terms of student exchanges. We are building a European University. We are also winning more and more high-profile grants, including ERC grants,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, said.

University of equal opportunities

Nowak, the UW Rector, in an opening address, welcoming new students and doctoral candidates during the inauguration of the 2024/2025 academic year. The event was held on 1st October in the Auditorium Maximum building on the main campus at Krakows

One of the world’s top ten

In the Golden Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace, the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, together with the Vice-Rectors, Prof. Adam Niewiadomski and Prof. Maciej Raś met with Mikołaj Wolanin. The student from the UW’s Faculty of Law and Administration is the only representative of Poland, and the only European, recorded in the top ten of the Global Student Prize competition.

UW aid for flood victims

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, and the University community express their solidarity with all the affected by the floods in southern Poland. The University authorities have launched a collection of donations for the flood victims.

The opening ceremony of the 2024/2025 academic year at UW

On 1st October, at 2 pm, the inauguration ceremony of the 2024/2025 academic year at the University of Warsaw will begin with the presence of university authorities and guests. The event will take place in the Auditorium Maximum on the Main Campus at Krakowskie Przedmieście. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the UW’s Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mecha

UW Rector’s team for the 2024-2028 term

On 1st September, the term of a new Rector’s team was commenced. For the next four years, the University will be governed by Rector Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak and Vice-Rectors: Prof. Sambor Grucza, Prof. Ewa Krogulec, Prof. Zygmunt Lalak, Prof. Adam Niewiadomski and Prof. Maciej Raś.
