Establishment of PCMA UW Research Centre in Cyprus
The Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw will set up a research centre in Paphos, Cyprus, where the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw expeditions have been working for over half a century. It will be the third foreign research post of the centre.
Inauguration of the 2021/2022 academic year
On 1st October, at 2. pm, the solemn ceremony of the new academic year at the University of Warsaw took place. Karol Husman, an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, working on robotics and machine learning, delivered the first academic lecture entitled “Unordered thoughts of machines”. The recorded inauguration is available on the UW website.
“Arm in arm” campaign
“I care about others”, “I believe in science”, “I want to travel around the world”, “I want to study normally”, “I want to live a normal life”, “I want to live” – these are the reasons to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The “Arm in arm” campaign has started at the University of Warsaw.
The organisation of education at UW in the 2021/2022 academic year
The new academic year will begin on 1st October. Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, has defined the rules for the organisation of education in the upcoming academic year 2021/2022 and the rules for the organisation of online classes, examinations and credits.
University of Warsaw Annual Report 2020
The University of Warsaw Annual Report 2020 is out. It includes significant data on UW, e.g. research and teaching activities, international collaboration, academic exchange, relations with the socio-economic environment, finances and university investments. The UW Executive Summary and annexes are available in English. The Senate of the University of Warsaw adopted the document.
4EU+ Alliance Becomes an Association
The 4EU+ Governing Board, comprising Rectors of six member universities of the 4EU+ Alliance, met online to pass a resolution to establish an association "4EU+ European University Alliance e.V.". The association’s registered office will be in Heidelberg, Germany.
UW and its operation as of 20th March
The Rector of the University of Warsaw has issued an ordinance on the operation of UW in the state of the epidemic, announced as of 20th March 2021. The document published on 19th March 2021, changes§ 17a included in Rector’s ordinance No. 217, issued on 29th September 2020.

University Council in 2021-2024
The University of Warsaw Senate appointed six members to the University Council of the University of Warsaw: Prof. Mirosław Ząbek (chairman), Prof. Marek Bujnicki, Prof. Pearl Dykstra, Prof. Poul Holm, Prof. Marek Karliner and Katarzyna Zajdel-Kurowska. Kamil Bonas, the UW Student Council President, is part of the University Council ex officio.
2020 at a glance
It has been a calendar year that will long be remembered by everyone. 2020 at the University of Warsaw saw, e.g. different rules for university operations during a COVID-19 pandemic, change of the UW authorities, ground-breaking research projects, national and international successes of UW employees and students. Visit of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of the Arab Republic of Egypt to UW
On 2nd September, the Egyptian delegation met with the representatives of the University of Warsaw, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Polish archaeological community working in Egypt. The involvement of Polish researchers in the studies on Egyptian archaeology and history was the main topic of the meeting.
Letter from the Rector Marcin Pałys
Prof. Marcin Pałys has served as the University of Warsaw Rector since 2012. Soon, his second term will come to an end. “These last eight years were filled with hard work, challenges, achievements and satisfaction, as well as lively discussions on the university’s vision and future,” says Prof. Marcin Pałys in a letter to the UW community.
