UW once again supports WOŚP

A university tie and cufflinks from the Rector, a day spent at an archaeological site, hosting a broadcast on Radio Kampus, a walk through the greenhouses of the UW Botanic Garden. These were some of the auctions of the University of Warsaw for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP). Fifty-one items were available this year.

University of Warsaw 207th Anniversary Concert

This year, the University of Warsaw is celebrating its 207th anniversary of its establishement. To mark the occasion, a concert entitled “Sceniczne harmonie” was held on 17th November. The University’s artistic ensembles as well as the singer and multi-instrumentalist Sławek Uniatowski were performing during the event.

UW in the World University Rankings by Subject

Times Higher Education published the results of the World University Rankings by Subject 2024. The University of Warsaw was evaluated in nine subjects with the highest score in Computer Science among Polish universities.

Together for common good

“It is a happy day for the University because of you, the most important part of our community. You have chosen the place where you can fulfil yourself in studying and exchange views with respect for other people,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, addressed new students and doctoral candidates during the opening ceremony of the academic year.

UW in the QS World University Rankings Europe

Quacquarelli Symonds published a new version of the university ranking devoted only to the European universities. The University of Warsaw took 92nd place in the list as the best Polish university.

The University of Warsaw Strategy for 2023-2032

On 29th June, the Senate of the University of Warsaw adopted the UW Strategy for 2023-2032. The document is the result of extensive consultation with academic community. It contains development objectives regarding teaching, research, management and work environment.

University of Warsaw in ARWU 2023

The results of the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities, also called the Shanghai Ranking, are out. The University of Warsaw is ranked between 401–500.

4EU+ Alliance welcomes Paris-Panthéon-Assas University as its new member

As of 1st July 2023, the 4EU+ Alliance is joined by the Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, making it the 8th higher education institution on board of the Alliance building One Comprehensive Research-Intensive European University.

UW in QS World University Rankings 2024

The University of Warsaw has been ranked 262nd in the latest QS World University Rankings, prepared by Quacquarelli Symonds. The 20th edition of the ranking has seen the university rise 22 places year on year. The UW was also ranked 1st among Polish universities.

On future from the European universities’ perspective

The University of Warsaw was a co-organiser of the international conference “Beyond resilience: How European higher education is preparing for the future”, which was held between 3 and 5 July in Warsaw. Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, was discussing collaborative work of European institutions to position Europe as a leading and competitive zone within the global higher education context.

On the 80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

On April 19th, 1943, the Jewish population confined to the Warsaw Ghetto undertook a heroic fight against the German occupying forces. On the 80th Anniversary of this event, let us pay homage to the heroic stance of the Jewish population of the Warsaw Ghetto, by pinning a symbolic daffodil to our clothes.

This year the Open Day of the University of Warsaw will take place on 22nd April. Everyone interested in the educational offer of the UW will have an opportunity to meet and talk to representatives of each faculty, student organisation or administrative office on the University’s main campus at Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.

4EU+ mini-grants competition

Charles University has announced the results of the fifth edition of the call for 4EU+ academic mini-grants and the second edition of the student mini-grants. The University of Warsaw participates in 20 out of 34 winning projects.

Aid to earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, and the academic community express their solidarity with earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria. The University of Warsaw supports donations in kind collection organised by the Turkish Ambassador to Poland. Students whose families have been affected by the disaster can apply for an assistance grant.

The newly-formed UW Faculty of Medicine

Following the Senate of the University of Warsaw’s approval, on 29th June, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, UW Rector, signed the ordinance on establishing the Faculty of Medicine. Over 70 years passed for the University of Warsaw to restart the medical education.

A Ceremonial Renewal of the Doctorate of Prof. Ewa Wipszycka-Bravo

A Polish historian and humanities professor who studies Christian culture in ancient times and the Middle Ages. On 15th December in the Senate Hall of Kazimierzowski Palace, a ceremonial renewal of a doctorate was held for Prof. Ewa Wipszycka-Bravo.

UW Rector’s letter to the academic community

We are publishing the letter from Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, UW Rector. The letter presents the UW authorities attitude to the pandemic reaching the territory of our country. It also refers to the last spring decision on a regular mode of study in the University of Warsaw.
