Letter of intent on Polish-French collaboration
Prof. Marcin Pałys, the UW Rector, signed a letter of intent, between the University of Warsaw, University of Sorbonne, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the Embassy of the French Republic to Poland, on strengthen research cooperation in the area of humanities and social sciences.
Visit of Sun Yat-Sen University representatives
The University of Warsaw was visited by representatives of Sun Yat-Sen University, China at November 25th. They were discussing with UW faculties’ authorieties, scientists and administration workers about future cooperation perspectives of both units.
SUNRISE and ENERGY-X joint cooperation: a major step towards building a climate neutral EU
Representatives from the EU Horizon 2020 Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs) SUNRISE and ENERGY-X announced their joint cooperation during the 14th European Congress on Catalysis, EuropaCat 2019. The two initiatives will continue to pursue their roadmapping actions until February 2020, when they plan to merge in a new initiative, with a new name.
SUNRISE’s stakeholders first meeting
The University of Warsaw belongs to SUNRISE, a multidisciplinary consortium which aims at using sunlight to provide a sustainable alternative to the production of fossil-based, energy-intensive fuels and basic chemicals. On 17th-18th June, stakeholders of SUNRISE met in Brussels.
UW Rector on the selection of 4EU+ as a pilot ‘European University’
The European Commission selected 17 European university alliances, which will obtain funding for their projects to become the ‘European Universities’ of the future. One of them is the 4EU+ Alliance. In the video, Prof. Marcin Pałys, rector of UW explains what it means for researchers, students and administrative staff of six partner universities.
API workshop for the employees of the 4EU+ universities
On 25th-27th June, 22 representatives of the 4EU+ Alliance participated in the workshop on the development of innovative didactic materials, tools and techniques. The workshop has been organised within the project entitled ‘’Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning’’.
Choirs’ Spring at UW
On 8th May, the 3rd edition of the UW choir music festival entitled the Choirs’ Spring began with an opening concert. This year, students from the University of Warsaw, Sorbonne University, University of Heidelberg and Charles University, all four being partners in the 4EU+ Alliance, give several performances.
Cultural Hot-Spot UW
On 17th May, students of the University of Warsaw will have an opportunity to learn about multiculturalism, meet people from abroad, and try traditional cuisine from their home countries. This is thanks to the event called “Miasteczko na Styku Kultur – Cultural Hot-Spot UW” which take place on the UW Main Campus from 10.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
UW in the EUA report
The University of Warsaw is one of 9 European universities discussed in the “The Role of Universities in Regional Innovation Ecosystems” report regarding university activities for development of innovation ecosystems. The publication was released by the European University Association. UW is a member of this organization.
54 alliances responded to the “European Universities” call
More than 300 higher education institutions from 31 European countries including all EU member states were involved in the first pilot call under the European Commission’s “European Universities Initiative”. The 4EU+ Alliance, to which the University of Warsaw belongs, is among the 54 alliances that submitted their applications in the Erasmus+ “European Universities” call.
Six universities in 4EU+
„Six partners, three challenges, one vision” that is a motto of 4EU+. The University of Warsaw, Charles University, Heidelberg University, Sorbonne University, that belong to the 4EU Alliance, join forces with the University of Copenhagen and University of Milan. Six partners created the 4EU+ consortium and submitted an application in the Erasmus+ “European Universities” call.
Two new rogue planets
Theories of planet formation predict the existence of free-floating planets that were ejected from their parent planetary systems and are floating alone through space. Astronomers from the Warsaw University Observatory have found two new rogue worlds. The discovery has been published in the journal “Astronomy & Astrophysics”.
