UW spin-off company received funding from the Gates Foundation
Researchers from UW ExploRNA Therapeutics spin-off were granted over $813,000 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to further develop mRNA technology. This unique technology can be used in treating viral infections and cancer.
Discovery of crocodile remains in the ancient Egyptian tombs
The expedition from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archeology discovered nine cloth-wrapped crocodile heads in mortuary complexes in the Theban Necropolis. It is the first of its kind discovery of reptiles’ remains within the tombs of people. The research work is conducted under the Polish Archeological Expedition to North Assasif “Asasif Project”.
An opportunity to share online or hybrid courses by UW academic teachers
As part of the 4EU+ educational collaboration, UW academic teachers can offer their courses conducted fully (including assesment) in an online or hybrid mode to be made accessible via online enrolment procedure to students and doctoral candidates of the 4EU+ Alliance five partner universities (4EU+ Shared courses). Proposals for shared courses must be submitted by 13 January.
CeNT’s research on solar energy and carbon dioxide
The Solar-driven Chemistry network has settled the competition for projects on how to use solar energy. One of the winners is “SUNCOCAT project: Rational design of efficient energy and charge transfer in biophotoelectrodes for direct conversion of CO2 into fuel”, led by Professor Joanna Kargul from the UW Centre of New Technologies.
The exhibition “Les Français à Varsovie”
“Les Français à Varsovie”, the exhibition about the history of Poland-France relations has been opened to the public at the French Embassy in Warsaw. The exposition was prepared by The Center for Research on Culture of Warsaw of the University of Warsaw as part of the project “Multicultural Warsaw in the past and at present”.
Nomagic Warsaw MIMotaurs reach the finals of the MBZIRC competition
The University of Warsaw’s team Nomagic Warsaw MIMotaurs has qualified with four other teams to the finals of a prestigious robotics competition “The Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge”. The finals will be held in 2024 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates – Abu Dhabi.
Julia Jakubowska and Julia Jurkowska, students of Applications of Physics in Biology and Medicine, were granted "DeepMind Scholarships” in the third edition of the program. The scholarship is given to female researchers, interested in conducting master’s studies focused on machine learning at the University of Warsaw.
The University of Warsaw hosted a meeting of its authorities with the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of the Palestinian National Authority. The main theme of the discussion was the development of academic exchange and fostering bilateral relations in such fields as scientific research and vocational education.
Onsite meetings on the legalisation of residence in Poland
Welcome Point, an information point for international students of the University of Warsaw, is organising two informational meetings on legal issues concerning residence in Poland. The events are dedicated to UW students and doctoral candidates from non-EU countries.
IDUB Programme and UW development
Supporting researchers in the development of their research careers, introducing good practices in the recruitment of staff, setting up international research teams, providing training, and a system for internal grants; thanks to the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Programme, the University of Warsaw increases the quality of its scientific and educational activities.
Career development and mobility are key factors in the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers. The University of Warsaw is implementing a number of actions to support and reinforce internationalisation. Among the introduced initiatives there is the Welcome Point.
Online course offer of Sorbonne University
In the spring/summer semester 2022/2023, online courses organised by Sorbonne University will be available for the 4EU+ students, including students of the University of Warsaw. Depending on the faculty offering the course, the application deadline is either 30th November or the first weeks of December.
Visits to strategic partner institutions
Creating joint scientific teams, jointly applying for grants, co-managing research and teaching centres are example actions under the Programme of visits to strategic partner institutions funded by the IDUB. This action complies with the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, which is implemented by those institutions that have been awarded with the HR Excellence in Research.
4EU+ Annual Meeting in Copenhagen
”Sustainability – an ever closer alliance” was the theme of this year’s meeting of representatives of the seven 4EU+ Alliance member universities. Rectors, flagship coordinators, administration staff, doctoral candidates and students of the partner universities were discussing 4EU+ achievements and future plans that also dealt with an issue of sustainable development.
Evolution of lizards at the era of dinosaurs
“This little fossil lets us see the evolution in action. In palaeontology you rarely have an occasion to work with such complete, well-preserved fossils,” Dr Mateusz Tałanda, the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw, said. The discovery of Bellairsia gracilis in Scotland has become a source of information about the early evolution of lizards at the era of dinosaurs.
