On 25th February, Prof. Anna Matysiak from the UW Faculty of Economic Sciences, who recently received an ERC grant, will deliver a lecture entitled “Family and fertility in the dynamically changing world of work”. This lecture begins a series of meetings, being a part of the doctoral programme at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences.
Mobile version of student card at UW
A mobile student card is already available at UW. This is an electronic version of a student document with the same legal value as its traditional version. To download it, one should first install the Mobile USOS and “mObywatel” applications on their smartphone.
A new interpretation of the origin of dinosaurs
Palaeontologists from the UW Faculty of Biology have provided evidence that dinosaurs evolved directly from four-legged ancestors. Previously, it was believed that dinosaurs were evolved from two-legged animals. The results were published in the Journal of Anatomy.
Polish archaeologists to train tourist guides in Sudan
At Old Dongola, Sudan, Polish specialists are supporting local communities to opportunity as part of partnership building between the scholarly community and local inhabitants. The capital city of the Kingdom of Makuria, excavated by Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw (PCMA UW) teams for over 50 years, also has great tourist potential that is waiting to be discovered.

Information meeting for international students
On 17th February, a new semester will begin. About 370 of international students will start their education at the University of Warsaw. They came here for short-term Erasmus+ and other international exchange programmes. The UW International Relations Office organised a special meeting for them on 12th February.
“Memory in Conflict” Winter School
Twenty-eight students and doctoral candidates from the 4EU+ universities take part in a winter school “Memory in Conflict”. The school is organised within the 4EU+ Flagship 2 “Europe in a changing world: Understanding and engaging societies, economies, cultures and languages”.
New “Nature Human Behaviour” publication co-authored by the researcher and student from UW
Prof. Michał Bilewicz from the Center for Research on Prejudice at the UW Faculty of Psychology and Olga Kuzawińska, a student of this faculty, are co-authors of the publication, which appeared on 27th January in "Nature Human Behaviour". The work concerns the impact of intergroup contact on support for collective action against discrimination among minorities and majorities.
The Second Exoplanet in the Proxima Centauri Planetary System
New observations of Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to the Solar System, located at a distance of 4.2 light years, have made it possible to reveal the presence of a candidate low-mass planet orbiting the star at a distance 1.5 times greater than that separating the Earth from the Sun.
Global Gaia campaign reveals secrets of stellar pair
A 500-day global observation campaign spearheaded more than three years ago by ESA’s galaxy-mapping powerhouse Gaia has provided unprecedented insights into the binary system of stars that caused an unusual brightening of an even more distant star.
Dr. Szwedziak awarded EMBO Installation Grant
Dr. Piotr Szwedziak from the UW Centre of New Technologies is one of nine young scientists who received an EMBO Installation Grant. The Installation Grant is awarded to early-career researchers establishing their independent laboratories. Dr. Szwedziak carries out research on cellular architecture of Archaea and their evolution.
4EU+ Secretary General takes office
The 4EU+ Alliance appointed its Secretary General. This post has been taken by Volker Balli. The Secretary General will be heading the Alliance office in Paris and will be leading a cross-institutional team comprised of staff at all six 4EU+ member universities.
