The 4EU+ Alliance appointed its Secretary General. This post has been taken by Volker Balli. The Secretary General will be heading the Alliance office in Paris and will be leading a cross-institutional team comprised of staff at all six 4EU+ member universities.

Prof. Anna Matysiak from the UW Faculty of Economic Sciences was awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant 2019. Her project LABFER is the first project which will comprehensively study fertility decisions in the changing world of work.

The University of Warsaw Library prolongs its working hours. “BUW for owls” starts on 20th January. Students who will be preparing for exams now can use the library until 5 am.

The archaeological site in Dongola (Sudan) drew around 1000 visitors during an Open Day organised by the UW Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology mission working at the site.

On 17th January, UW Welcome Point organises two information meetings for students who would like to get information on how to legalise their stay in Poland.

Dr. Piotr Szwedziak from the UW Centre of New Technologies is one of nine young scientists who received an EMBO Installation Grant. The Installation Grant is awarded to early-career researchers establishing their independent laboratories. Dr. Szwedziak carries out research on cellular architecture of Archaea and their evolution.
