Ground nesting of chimpanzees in Congo
A team of researchers from the Faculty of “Artes Liberales” at the University of Warsaw and the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystems Dynamics at the University of Amsterdam have conducted a study on the ground nesting of chimpanzees in the northern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The results are published in the prestigious journal “Folia Primatologica”.
“Nature” publication on a binary star system
An international team led by astronomers from the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics has announced in the "Nature" journal the discovery of a unique binary star system in which matter flows onto the white dwarf from its companion. One of the paper's authors presenting the results is Prof. Andrzej Udalski from the UW Astronomical Observatory.
Science like oxygen. Nobel laureate visits UW
What is the real value of oxygen? What does a career in science look like? The answers to these questions were revealed by Sir Peter Ratcliffe during his lecture at the University of Warsaw. It was the first visit to Poland of the 2019 Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine.

How to make voting-based decisions that better reflect voters' preferences? This question has been raised by an ERC Starting Grant recipient, Prof. Piotr Skowron from the UW Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics in his project “Proportional Algorithms for Democratic Decision”.
What is teotl?
Teotl was a key religious concept of the Nahuas. Did it refer to a “god”, a source of energy or a being from the afterlife? Dr Agnieszka Brylak from the UW Faculty of Modern Languages will try to find the answer to this question during the project “The concept of teotl: a complex approach to the principal religious category of pre-Hispanic Central Mexico”, financed with the ERC Starting Grant.
Renovation of the oldest mosque in Sudan
The Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology (PCMA) UW is launching a new cultural heritage protection project “Baraka: Revitalization of the Oldest Preserved Mosque at Old Dongola” funded by the International alliance for the protection of heritage in conflict areas (ALIPH). The Old Dongola mosque is the oldest preserved mosque in the Republic of Sudan.
