The project “Excellence and development of teaching at the University of Warsaw” is currently underway; its aim is to comprehensively improve the quality of education and develop the teaching skills of academic and doctoral employees. The initiative forms part of the university’s strategic efforts to promote modern, high-quality teaching.

The project (No. FERS.01.05-IP.08-0279/25) is being implemented from 7th January 2026 to 31st December 2028 under the European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027 programme and is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus. The project is coordinated by the Division of the Vice-Rector for Doctoral and Legal Affairs.

Support for doctoral schools

A key element of the project is to strengthen systemic support for doctoral schools, including the development of a coherent system for ensuring the quality of education in doctoral schools.

“For the past seven years, we have been consistently developing the doctoral schools at the University of Warsaw. Investing in the youngest generation of researchers is crucial for the future and further development of our university, which is why we strive to make use of every opportunity to secure funding for activities in this area,” says Prof. Adam Niewiadomski, the UW Vice-Rector for Doctoral and Legal Affairs.

Improving the quality of education

The main objective of the project is the systematic improvement of teaching quality at the University of Warsaw by enhancing the skills of both current and future teaching employees.

Planned activities include the launch of teaching training courses aimed at academic employees and doctoral candidates. The project also covers the development of digital skills, the use of artificial intelligence tools, competencies related to the green transition, and universal design for learning (UDL).

“In the first quarter, 75 academic teachers took part in the training. Recruitment of doctoral candidates is currently underway; they will be able to join the training programme as early as May and June,” says Maria Golińska-Wapińska, project manager.

Competence development and good practices

Several hundred people – including both doctoral candidates and academic teachers – will take part in the development activities. The programme involves not only training but also the creation and dissemination of good teaching practices. One of the outcomes will be the compilation of a catalogue of 25 examples of innovative teaching solutions, which will be made available to the academic community.

The total value of the project is PLN 1,999,865.39, and the grant awarded to the University of Warsaw amounts to PLN 1,939,800.39.
