Superconductivity at record-high temperature

Scientists have for the first time estimated the temperature at which superconductivity can be achieved in silver-fluoride-based superconductors. The obtained value of about 200 K (negative 73 deg. C) is substantially higher than the experimental record held by copper oxides – 135 K (negative 138 deg. C).

Dr. Szwedziak awarded EMBO Installation Grant

Dr. Piotr Szwedziak from the UW Centre of New Technologies is one of nine young scientists who received an EMBO Installation Grant. The Installation Grant is awarded to early-career researchers establishing their independent laboratories. Dr. Szwedziak carries out research on cellular architecture of Archaea and their evolution.

SUNRISE’s stakeholders first meeting

Novel mechanism underlying mitochondrial diseases

Mitochondrial diseases usually manifest themselves in disorders of the nervous system and muscles. Dr. Karthik Mohanraj and Dr. Michał Wasilewski from the UW Centre of New Technologies are members of the scientific team that has discovered a novel mechanism underlying many mitochondrial diseases. The results of their research were published in a magazine entitled ‘EMBO Molecular Medicine’.

New materials that can work as superconductors at ambient conditions

On 16th January, “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America”, a prestigious American journal, published the article on new materials that can work as superconductors at ambient conditions. A team of researchers from the University of Warsaw, led by Prof. Wojciech Grochala, contributed to the article.

European Inventor Award 2018
