UW transitions to remote learning
On 20th March, UW faculties and other didactic units will publish a list of lectures and courses which will be available online from 23rd March. On 16th March, the Digital Competence Centre of the University of Warsaw will inform about the simplification of procedures and guidance on the possibility of conducting online classes, using Kampus platform.
Visit of the President of Iceland to the UW
“Defending Asgard, independence and human rights. The use of history in current affairs” is the title of a lecture that Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, President of Iceland, gave at the University of Warsaw. The meeting was a part of his official visit to Poland.
Election of the UW rector
On 3rd March, the first Electoral College meeting took place. Members of this body elected x candidates for the position of rector. On 22nd April, it will be clear who will manage the university’s activity, represent UW externally and be the superior of employees, students and doctoral candidates.
UW students took 5th place in RITC 2020
The team representing the UW Faculty of Economic Sciences was ranked 5th in the prestigious Rotman International Trading Competition, an annual event that brings teams of students and their faculty advisors from universities worldwide to participate in a unique 3-day simulated market challenge. This year, 47 teams took part in it.
Letter of intent on Polish-French collaboration
Prof. Marcin Pałys, the UW Rector, signed a letter of intent, between the University of Warsaw, University of Sorbonne, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the Embassy of the French Republic to Poland, on strengthen research cooperation in the area of humanities and social sciences.
First results of research in Soba, capital city of the Medieval Kingdom of Alwa
The first season of archaeological fieldwork in the medieval city of Soba near Khartoum (Sudan) came to a close. A team of researchers from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw (PCMA UW) and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of the Sciences (IAE PAS) documented hitherto unknown districts of the capital city.

Announcement concerning the occurrence of Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in Italy
Following the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, the University advises to: cancel trips to the 11 Italian municipalities in quarantine; contact UW Italian partners from the 11 municipalities in quarantine with a suggestion to postpone or cancel visits to the UW.
Seminar of Doctoral School of Social Sciences
On 25th February, Prof. Anna Matysiak from the UW Faculty of Economic Sciences, who recently received an ERC grant, will deliver a lecture entitled “Family and fertility in the dynamically changing world of work”. This lecture begins a series of meetings, being a part of the doctoral programme at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences.
Mobile version of student card at UW
A mobile student card is already available at UW. This is an electronic version of a student document with the same legal value as its traditional version. To download it, one should first install the Mobile USOS and “mObywatel” applications on their smartphone.
A new interpretation of the origin of dinosaurs
Palaeontologists from the UW Faculty of Biology have provided evidence that dinosaurs evolved directly from four-legged ancestors. Previously, it was believed that dinosaurs were evolved from two-legged animals. The results were published in the Journal of Anatomy.
Polish archaeologists to train tourist guides in Sudan
At Old Dongola, Sudan, Polish specialists are supporting local communities to opportunity as part of partnership building between the scholarly community and local inhabitants. The capital city of the Kingdom of Makuria, excavated by Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw (PCMA UW) teams for over 50 years, also has great tourist potential that is waiting to be discovered.
