The UW scientists’ article in „Nature Physics”
Demonstration of fundamentally distinct type of lattice clock is one of the main topics of the research conducted by the international team of scientists. Two of them are the UW Faculty of Chemistry employees. The description of the scientists’ work is presented in the article entitled “Molecular lattice clock with vibrational coherence” that was published in “Nature Physics”.
The UW scientist as a co-author of the paper in “Nature Photonics”
The article entitled “Suppressed Auger scattering and tunable light emission of Landau-quantized massless Kane electrons” was published in “Nature Photonics” magazine. One of its co-authors is Prof. Marek Potemski, a Visiting Professor at the UW Faculty of Physics. The paper introduces new steps in the research connected with the future technology of Landau level lasers.
The Milky Way in three dimensions
When Galileo pointed his first telescope at the Milky Way in the early 17th century, he noticed it consists of countless stars. Since that time, studying the properties and history of our Galaxy has absorbed many generations of scientists. Writing in Science, Polish astronomers from the UW Astronomical Observatory present a unique three-dimensional map of the Milky Way.
Quantum interference in service of information technology
Scientists from the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, in collaboration with the University of Oxford and the NIST agency, have shown that quantum interference enables processing of large sets of data faster and more accurately than with standard methods. Their studies may boost applications of quantum technologies in e.g. artificial intelligence, robotics and medical diagnostics.
Effects of the first fieldwork season in Old Dongola
The team of ERC Starting Grant "UMMA – Urban Metamorphosis of the community of a Medieval African capital city", headed by Dr. Artur Obłuski, organized a workshop to summarize the results of the first fieldwork season in Old Dongola. The archeologists have developed the urban plan of the city.
Open lecture of the Nobel laureate at UW
Professor Roald Hoffmann is an outstanding specialist in theoretical chemistry who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1981. On 30th August the scientist will be a special guest at UW as a lecturer during the 19th European Symposium on Fluorine Chemistry at the UW Faculty of Physics.
SUNRISE’s stakeholders first meeting
The University of Warsaw belongs to SUNRISE, a multidisciplinary consortium which aims at using sunlight to provide a sustainable alternative to the production of fossil-based, energy-intensive fuels and basic chemicals. On 17th-18th June, stakeholders of SUNRISE met in Brussels.
UW Rector on the selection of 4EU+ as a pilot ‘European University’
The European Commission selected 17 European university alliances, which will obtain funding for their projects to become the ‘European Universities’ of the future. One of them is the 4EU+ Alliance. In the video, Prof. Marcin Pałys, rector of UW explains what it means for researchers, students and administrative staff of six partner universities.
API workshop for the employees of the 4EU+ universities
On 25th-27th June, 22 representatives of the 4EU+ Alliance participated in the workshop on the development of innovative didactic materials, tools and techniques. The workshop has been organised within the project entitled ‘’Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning’’.
