“Nature” article on invasive tree species
An international team of researchers published in “Nature” the results of the study concerning various conditions of biological invasions of non-native tree species and factors which counter the invasions. The co-author of the paper is Prof. Bogdan Jaroszewicz from the Białowieża Geobotanical Station, University of Warsaw.
Two-Faced Star Exposed
An international team of astronomers has announced the discovery of an unusual white dwarf star that is made of hydrogen on one side and helium on the other. They reported their findings in the latest issue of "Nature". Dr Przemysław Mróz from the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw is a co-author of the study.
“Nature” publication on a binary star system
An international team led by astronomers from the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics has announced in the "Nature" journal the discovery of a unique binary star system in which matter flows onto the white dwarf from its companion. One of the paper's authors presenting the results is Prof. Andrzej Udalski from the UW Astronomical Observatory.
Professor Marta Szulkin of the CeNT UW – a co-author of the article in “Science”
Humans re-shape the environments where they live, with cities being among the most profoundly transformed environments on Earth. New research now shows that these urban environments are altering the way life evolves. The research team led by the University of Toronto Mississauga published their work results in “Science”. Among the co-authors is Professor Marta Szulkin from the CeNT UW.
UW Physicists in ”Nature”
Scientists from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw led by Prof. Michał Tomza, together with the experimental group of Prof. Tobias Schaetz from the University of Freiburg, were the first to observe Feshbach resonances between single ion and ultracold atoms. The results of their work have been published in “Nature”. The article has also been highlighted on the journal’s cover.
Obesity is a risk factor for diseases such as type II diabetes, heart disease and fatty liver disease. An international research team, to which researchers from the UW Faculty of Chemistry belong, identified a new factor that offers a potential new therapeutic strategy for obesity. Their study has now been published in the prestigious journal “Nature Metabolism”.
The UW scientists’ article in „Nature Physics”
Demonstration of fundamentally distinct type of lattice clock is one of the main topics of the research conducted by the international team of scientists. Two of them are the UW Faculty of Chemistry employees. The description of the scientists’ work is presented in the article entitled “Molecular lattice clock with vibrational coherence” that was published in “Nature Physics”.
The UW scientist as a co-author of the paper in “Nature Photonics”
The article entitled “Suppressed Auger scattering and tunable light emission of Landau-quantized massless Kane electrons” was published in “Nature Photonics” magazine. One of its co-authors is Prof. Marek Potemski, a Visiting Professor at the UW Faculty of Physics. The paper introduces new steps in the research connected with the future technology of Landau level lasers.
Astronomers discover a new class of X-ray sources
Sun and other stars in the Milky Way emit radiation that can be detected by human eyes. Astronomers, however, know many celestial objects that can radiate their energy in the form of X-rays. An international team of scientists, which includes astronomers from the Astronomical Observatory of UW, reported in the “Nature Astronomy” journal the discovery of a new class of X-ray sources.
