UW in the EUA report
The University of Warsaw is one of 9 European universities discussed in the “The Role of Universities in Regional Innovation Ecosystems” report regarding university activities for development of innovation ecosystems. The publication was released by the European University Alliance. UW is a member of this organization.
54 alliances responded to the “European Universities” call
More than 300 higher education institutions from 31 European countries including all EU member states were involved in the first pilot call under the European Commission’s “European Universities Initiative”. The 4EU+ Alliance, to which the University of Warsaw belongs, is among the 54 alliances that submitted their applications in the Erasmus+ “European Universities” call.
Six universities in 4EU+
„Six partners, three challenges, one vision” that is a motto of 4EU+. The University of Warsaw, Charles University, Heidelberg University, Sorbonne University, that belong to the 4EU Alliance, join forces with the University of Copenhagen and University of Milan. Six partners created the 4EU+ consortium and submitted an application in the Erasmus+ “European Universities” call.
Two new rogue planets
Theories of planet formation predict the existence of free-floating planets that were ejected from their parent planetary systems and are floating alone through space. Astronomers from the Warsaw University Observatory have found two new rogue worlds. The discovery has been published in the journal “Astronomy & Astrophysics”.
Warsaw ranked 1st in fDi ranking
According to the latest fDi report “Polish Cities of the Future 2019/20 ”, Warsaw reigned supreme for the third time. The capital of Poland performed strongly in the economic potential, human capital and lifestyle, connectivity and business friendliness categories.
SUNRISE won the Horizon 2020 grant
“Solar energy for a circular economy”, a project of SUNRISE consortium, has been selected as one of the six Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) within the Horizon 2020 programme. It will set the basis for a European large scale research project. UW belongs to the consortium.
2019 European Learning & Teaching Forum
On 14th-15th February, the 2019 European Learning & Teaching Forum entitled “Towards successful learning: Controversies and common ground” will be held at the University of Warsaw. The event is organised by the European University Association (EUA). UW is a member of EUA.
API kick-off meeting
The University of Warsaw hosted the kick-off meeting of the “Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning” (API) project which aims to increase mobility and develop durable solutions in the area of scientific cooperation. The 4EU Alliance universities are the UW partners in the project.
UW in 2018 – 10 events
In 2018, the University of Warsaw was engaged in various research and didactic initiatives including the UW preparations for implementation the Law on Higher Education and Science (Law 2.0), formation of 4EU – a European University Alliance, and the federation with the Medical University of Warsaw. The letter of intent between UW and WUM
On 16th October, the University of Warsaw and the Medical University of Warsaw signed a letter of intent on the creation of their federation. Both universities want to carry out joint research projects, run joint courses, and enable their students and employees to use facilities of a partner university. UW and WUM want to formalise their cooperation in October 2019.
LERU and CE7 met at UW
On 22nd September rectors of the universities that belong to the League of European Research Universities (LERU) met with their counterparts of seven Central European Universities (CE7) at the University of Warsaw. They were discussing the future of the EU in terms of Brexit, research funding, regional innovation, open science and internationalisation.
A conference on the cult of saints
From 27th to 29th September the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw will host a final conference of the ERC project entitled “The Cult of Saints in Late Antiquity”. The ERC Advanced Grant project is based at the University of Oxford with an offshoot at the University of Warsaw and partnership at the University of Reading.
