Dr. Thurston C. Hicks as a co-author of the paper in “International Journal of Primatology”
The article entitled “The Relationship Between Tool Use and Prey Availability in Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) of Northern Democratic Republic of Congo” has been published in “International Journal of Primatology” magazine. Its first author is Dr. Thurston C. Hicks from the UW Faculty of "Artes Liberales".
Admissions to Doctoral Schools for the 2020/2021 academic year

Prof. Bogdan Jaroszewicz from the Białowieża Geobotanical Station of the UW Faculty of Biology is among the authors of an article, published in the journal "Nature Ecology & Evolution", presenting how the biodiversity of forest undergrowth has changed over the past decades. The research was based on data from 68 temperate forest complexes in Europe, including the Bialowieża Forest.
ERC awarded its Advanced Grant to a UW scientist
Prof. Stefan Dziembowski from the UW Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant for his project entitled “Smart-Contract Protocols: Theory for Applications”. PROCONTRA is an acronym for the project.

Letter of intent on Polish-French collaboration
Prof. Marcin Pałys, the UW Rector, signed a letter of intent, between the University of Warsaw, University of Sorbonne, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the Embassy of the French Republic to Poland, on strengthen research cooperation in the area of humanities and social sciences.
First results of research in Soba, capital city of the Medieval Kingdom of Alwa
The first season of archaeological fieldwork in the medieval city of Soba near Khartoum (Sudan) came to a close. A team of researchers from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw (PCMA UW) and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of the Sciences (IAE PAS) documented hitherto unknown districts of the capital city.
A new interpretation of the origin of dinosaurs
Palaeontologists from the UW Faculty of Biology have provided evidence that dinosaurs evolved directly from four-legged ancestors. Previously, it was believed that dinosaurs were evolved from two-legged animals. The results were published in the Journal of Anatomy.
New “Nature Human Behaviour” publication co-authored by the researcher and student from UW
Prof. Michał Bilewicz from the Center for Research on Prejudice at the UW Faculty of Psychology and Olga Kuzawińska, a student of this faculty, are co-authors of the publication, which appeared on 27th January in "Nature Human Behaviour". The work concerns the impact of intergroup contact on support for collective action against discrimination among minorities and majorities.

Dr. Szwedziak awarded EMBO Installation Grant
Dr. Piotr Szwedziak from the UW Centre of New Technologies is one of nine young scientists who received an EMBO Installation Grant. The Installation Grant is awarded to early-career researchers establishing their independent laboratories. Dr. Szwedziak carries out research on cellular architecture of Archaea and their evolution.
