The projects of two ERC grants laureates will be carried out at the University of Warsaw. Prof. Grażyna Jurkowlaniec from the UW’s Faculty of Culture and Arts is the first Polish female researcher awarded with the Advanced Grant. Prof. Emanuel Gull, a Swiss from the University of Michigan, will conduct his project at the Faculty of Physics, where he will move his lab.

“Contemporary idea of Eastern Europe is deeply rooted in the post-war order symbolised by the Iron Curtain. However, a closer look at the early modern concepts of an area known as ‘European Sarmatia’ will reveal an entirely different facet of this region. In my opinion, the key to its understanding lies in images and discriptions of animals, said Prof. Grażyna Jurkowlaniec, an ERC grant laureate.
