Scientists from the Faculty of Chemistry and the Biological and Chemical Research Centre at the UW investigated the synthesis and characterisation of 2D materials used for rapid storage of large amounts of electrical energy. Their finds were published in “Nature Materials”.

Scientists from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Warsaw in cooperation with researchers from the Military University of Technology, have discovered a new way of helical ordering of electric dipoles in a ferroelectric liquid. The work has been published in the latest issue of “Science”.

Prof. Paweł Majewski from the UW’s Faculty of Chemistry and Przemysław Puła, a doctoral candidate at the UW’s Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences, are among the authors of an article on laser drumming on ultrathin polymer membranes. The paper was published in the “Advanced Materials” journal.

Molecular motors based on overcrowded alkenes are synthetic machines that, powered by light, perform controlled, unidirectional rotations of one part of the molecule relative to the other. Dr Wojciech Danowski from the UW’s Faculty of Chemistry is a co-author of a publication describing how to drastically increase the efficiency of these nanoscale motors, approaching the theoretical maximum.

Blue was among the most popular clothing colours of the inhabitants of Old Dongola. They wore mainly cotton and wool, according to research by chemists and archaeologists from the University of Warsaw. The results of their analysis of fabrics excavated on the territory of present-day Sudan were published in journal “Archaeometry”.

Scientists from the University of Warsaw developed a new method for producing chemical sensors built from nanostructured transition metal oxides. The results of their research make a significant contribution in the field of nanomaterial synthesis and sensing technologies.

Dr Maria Górna from the Faculty of Chemistry and her team developed a new method of preparing RNA for sequencing, which will facilitate the study of gene expression for many species of fungi, plants and eukaryotic microorganisms.

Demonstration of fundamentally distinct type of lattice clock is one of the main topics of the research conducted by the international team of scientists. Two of them are the UW Faculty of Chemistry employees. The description of the scientists’ work is presented in the article entitled “Molecular lattice clock with vibrational coherence” that was published in “Nature Physics”.

Prof. Janusz Jurczak, a distinguished scientist who conducts research in organic chemistry, received the doctor honoris causa degree of the University of Warsaw. The ceremony took place on 16th January.

On 16th January, “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America”, a prestigious American journal, published the article on new materials that can work as superconductors at ambient conditions. A team of researchers from the University of Warsaw, led by Prof. Wojciech Grochala, contributed to the article.
