UW Rector in the Scientific Council of the Military Institute of Medicine

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, has been appointed to the Scientific Council of the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute. The appointment ceremony by the Minister of National Defense took place on 13th August.

University of Warsaw delegation visit in Peru

A University of Warsaw delegation, led by Rector Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, University of Warsaw Chancellor Robert Grey, and Konrad Zawadzki, Deputy Director of the University of Warsaw Biological and Chemical Research Centre, visited Peru to inaugurate new directions of scientific, economic, and cultural cooperation. The meetings were accompanied by anniversary celebrations.

Honoris causa doctorate for Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, received an honoris causa doctorate from the Catholic University of Santa María in Arequipa, Peru. The award ceremony took place on 9th September.

Rector of the UW at the Scientific Council of the Military Medical Institute

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, has been appointed to the Scientific Council of the Military Medical Institute – National Research Institute. The ceremony of presenting the appointments by the Minister of National Defence took place on 13th August.

The role of innovation in shaping the future of higher education

„We live in very turbulent times, but also in times of great opportunities. I believe that, together, we can reduce the uncertainty of tomorrow – also in the higher education and science sectors – by collaborating on the improvement of new technologies,” says Prof. Alojzy Z. Meeting with the Ambassador of Portugal

On 7th July, Professor Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, met with the Ambassador of Portugal to Poland. Discussions with Mário M. Duarte focused on the possibility of expanding academic cooperation with Portuguese institutions.

The UW Rector’s Annual Report 2024

On 25th June, the UW Senate adopted “The University of Warsaw Rector’s Annual Report 2024”. The document is a comprehensive source of information about each group of the academic community, educational offer, research activities, relations with the socio-economic environment, finances and investments. It also contains the calendar of the most important events in the past year.

Cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense on Supply Security

The University of Warsaw has joined the group of institutions collaborating on the special report dedicated to the security of the supply chain in the Polish defense industry. The ceremony of signing and presenting the agreements to the new signatories took place on 28th May in the Kazimierzowski Palace at the University of Warsaw's Main Campus.

Rector’s Distinctions for researchers

168 researchers from the University of Warsaw were honoured with the Rector’s Distinctions. The award ceremony took place on 2nd April at the Kazimierzowski Palace.

University Council 2025–2028

At the meeting on 5th March, the UW Senate elected a new composition of the University Council. It will include Prof. Mirosław Ząbek, Robert Dobrzycki, Prof. Roman Kapuscinski and Prof. Marek Karliner. An ex-officio member of the University Council is Mateusz Mossakowski, president of the UW Students’ Union Board.

57th anniversary of the student revolt at the University of Warsaw

March 1968 saw dramatic events at the University of Warsaw – student protests and their brutal pacification by the security apparatus of the Polish People’s Republic. On the 57th anniversary of those tragic days, a ceremony was held at the University’s main campus on Krakowskie Przedmieście to lay flowers under a plaque commemorating the events of March 1968.

Meeting with the Belgian Prime Minister and Nobel Prize winners in Davos

The possibilities of increasing Europe’s competitiveness through pioneering research and innovation were discussed by participants in one of the panels at the Belgium House in Davos, including Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the UW.

On development, education and commercialisation in Davos

“The UW, in cooperation with other leading Polish universities, is active in creating a strong domestic and foreign environment for supporting the development of both basic and applied research and the use of its results through commercialisation and the creation of start-ups,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, said.

On AI in the economy

“Poland has great development opportunities in terms of technology and innovation. We have a number of excellent academic centres in this respect that are recognised internationally. The University of Warsaw is among them,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the UW, said during a meeting at AI House.

Easter wishes from the UW Rector

On the occasion of the upcoming Easter, the Rector of the University of Warsaw wishes the entire Academic Community and Friends healthy, peaceful and family moments spent with their loved ones.

The University of Warsaw was an academic partner of the AI House and the Polish Business Hub, taking place during the World Economic Forum in Davos. The UW was represented by Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, Robert Grey, the UW Chancellor, and Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the UW’s Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics.

Cooperation between the UW and a Korean university

On 10th December, the University of Warsaw and Gangneung-Wonju National University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Both parties will develop mutual relations in fields such as education, research, and culture.
