58th anniversary of the March ’68

On 8th March, 1968, a protest rally took place on the Main Campus of the UW against restrictions on freedom of speech and the policies of the authorities of the time. Each year, members of the university community, residents of Warsaw, and guests gather at the plaque commemorating these events. This year’s ceremony will begin at 12:00 p.m.

Security measures at the University of Warsaw

The Security Office, intervention measures for the UW’s Security Guard, talks with the services – the University of Warsaw has taken numerous endeavours to strengthen security on campus. Further measures are also planned in the near future, including training, new alarm systems and the installation of CCTV surveillance in all University of Warsaw buildings.

Caring for safety and well-being at the University of Warsaw

“For us, safety is more than just protecting buildings and procedures. It also means caring for the mental health and sense of comfort of every member of our community,” says Robert Grey, Chancellor of the University of Warsaw. The University of Warsaw is running a campaign called “Your Mind – Your Strength,” organised by the University of Warsaw Psychological Support Centre.

Alloy-engineered valleytronics

Scientists from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw, in collaboration with teams from other universities, have observed a new microscopic mechanism enabling precise control of the magneto-optical properties of excitons in alloys of two-dimensional semiconductors. The research findings were published in the journal “Physical Review Letters”.

CENTRAL Leadership Programme – call for applications

Master's students and doctoral candidates at the University of Warsaw can apply to participate in the CENTRAL Network Leadership Programme. The call for applications is open until 31st March.

The largest star that changed its face

An international team of scientists has published in the prestigious journal Nature Astronomy the results of many years of research on one of the largest known stars in the Universe. Located in a neighboring galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud, the star WOH G64 has undergone a complete transformation over the surprisingly short timescale of just a few years.

How are rete ridges formed?

The formation of epidermal combs is the subject of an article co-authored by researchers from the Centre of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw – Prof. Krzysztof Kobielak and Dr Anna Puławska-Czub. The publication was published in the “Nature” journal.

Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence for Life Sciences Centre

The development of secure, transparent and efficient AI algorithms capable of working with limited – with particular emphasis on applications in medicine and life sciences – is the task of four research groups that will implement the Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence for Life Sciences Center project. It has received PLN 30 million in funding from the International Research Agendas programme.

4EU+ courses for students and doctoral candidates

Partner universities from the 4EU+ Alliance have reopened registration for their courses for students and doctoral candidates. There are classes available at the universities: Heidelberg, Paris-Panthéon-Assas, Milan, and Sorbonne.

UW students at the International Rover Challenge 2026

Students from the University of Warsaw won the Emerging Team of the Year Award and took 8th place in the overall classification during the International Rover Challenge 2026, an international Mars rover competition held in India. Over 30 academic teams from around the world took part in the competition.

Meeting with the German Ambassador

On 11th February, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Poland. The talks with Miguel Berger focused on the possibilities of expanding academic cooperation with German institutions and implementing joint research projects.

Success of the University of Warsaw team in ICPC EUC 2026

Students from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics won the silver medal at the 3rd European Collegiate Programming Championship (ICPC EUC 2026), the final of which took place on 8th February at the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw. The team from the University of Warsaw qualified for the 50th ICPC 2026 World Finals, which will take place in November in Dubai.

Cooperation with a Cypriot university

In January, the University of Warsaw hosted a delegation from the American University of Beirut Mediterraneo. The Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, signed a cooperation agreement with the Cypriot university.

Stars of internationalisation from UW

Discussions on quality-driven internationalisation took centre stage at the Study in Poland conference International Students in Poland 2026, attended by Prof. Sambor Grucza, UW Vice-Rector. The accompanying gala recognised University of Warsaw representatives Prof. Piotr Sankowski and Jeremy Caldeira among the winners of the Stars of Internationalisation 2026 and Interstudent 2026.

University of Warsaw in QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026

In the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026, the University of Warsaw ranked 113th, achieving the best result among universities in Poland.
