Polyphony: seminars about Middle East

What do we know about contemporary conflicts? What role does the university play today in discussions at the intersection of politics, economics and ethics? These questions will be discused during meetings which are part of a new series of academic debates on the socio-political situation in south-west Asia and north-east Africa. The meetings will take place in March and April.

Winners of the 13th edition of BraveCamp

Zaklepuje.To is a system and application for managing kayak rentals on the Polish market. Its creator, Jakub Jażdżyk, a student of computer science at the Warsaw University of Technology, became the winner of the 13th edition of the BraveCamp Entrepreneurship Academy, organised by the UW Incubator. The final gala took place on 14th February at the University of Warsaw Library.

Meeting with the delegation of the Slovak Republic

On 12th February, a meeting was held at the University of Warsaw between representatives of university authorities and a delegation from the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic. Discussed topics included the possibilities of developing cooperation in teaching and research.

UW a leader of the “Horizon Europe” programme

The University of Warsaw maintains its position as a leader in Poland among scientific institutions that are beneficiaries of the European Union Framework Programme “Horizon Europe”. Researchers from the UW participate in the implementation of 89 projects. The UW has received more than EUR 44.4 million from the programme.

The third edition of public speaking workshop

International students and doctoral candidates are invited to join the third edition of public speaking workshop organised by the UW’s Welcome Point. The event will be held on 5th March at the Main Campus of the University of Warsaw. Registration is mandatory.

Meeting with the Belgian Prime Minister and Nobel Prize winners in Davos

The possibilities of increasing Europe’s competitiveness through pioneering research and innovation were discussed by participants in one of the panels at the Belgium House in Davos, including Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the UW.

On development, education and commercialisation in Davos

“The UW, in cooperation with other leading Polish universities, is active in creating a strong domestic and foreign environment for supporting the development of both basic and applied research and the use of its results through commercialisation and the creation of start-ups,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, said.

UW in the World University Rankings by Subject 2025

Times Higher Education published the results of the World University Rankings by Subject 2025. The University of Warsaw was included in nine out of eleven assessed subjects with the highest score in Arts and Humanities among Polish universities.

On AI in the economy

“Poland has great development opportunities in terms of technology and innovation. We have a number of excellent academic centres in this respect that are recognised internationally. The University of Warsaw is among them,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the UW, said during a meeting at AI House.

Neuronal plasticity of the brain and social learning

An interdisciplinary team of scientists has discovered that, to effectively learn from others, it is necessary to engage the prefrontal cortex. Scientific data on this was presented using computational and analytical contributions, developed and carried out by prof. Krzysztof Turzyński from the UW Faculty of Physics. The discovery was published in the “Science Advances” scientific journal.

The Last Light of the Gaia Space Mission

After 11 years of uninterrupted operation in space, the European Space Agency's (ESA) Gaia spacecraft has completed its sky scanning. During this time, it collected over 3 billion observations of approximately 2 billion stars and other celestial objects. The data gathered by the Gaia mission has revolutionised our understanding of the Milky Way and the surrounding universe.

New sources of cosmic X-rays

An international team of astronomers, led by researchers from the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw, have identified a new class of cosmic X-ray sources.The results of the study were published in “The Astrophysical Journal Letters”.
