209 years of the University of Warsaw

„Thank you very much for every year we spend together. It is thanks to you that the University can develop at every level and in every field of its activities,” said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, during a birthday concert at the Warsaw University Library. On 20th November, the university community celebrated the 209th anniversary of the University of Warsaw.

“Your mind – your strength”

An information and education campaign entitled “Your mind – your strength” has been launched at the University of Warsaw. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and promote well-being among the entire academic community. The campaign is being carried out by the University of Warsaw Psychological Support Center.

Security measures at the University of Warsaw

The Security Office, intervention measures for the UW’s Security Guard, talks with the services – the University of Warsaw has taken numerous endeavours to strengthen security on campus. Further measures are also planned in the near future, including training, new alarm systems and the installation of CCTV surveillance in all University of Warsaw buildings.

Meeting with representatives of the National Taiwan Normal University

On 5th December, the University of Warsaw hosted representatives of the National Taiwan Normal University. The meeting was dedicated to strengthening cooperation between the institutions, with particular emphasis on academic exchange, joint research projects and new educational initiatives.

Meetings with ambassadors

On 2nd December, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, met with the ambassadors of Moldova and Mongolia at the University of Warsaw. The discussions focused on the development of international cooperation in the field of joint scientific projects, education and academic exchange.

Visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea at the UW

On 25th November, a meeting was held at the UW Faculty of Physics with a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Poland. The discussions focused on the further development of educational and scientific cooperation within the Nuclear Collaboration Center (NCC), a nuclear-energy training centre operating at the Faculty of Physics.

Visit of a delegation from Kosovo

On 24th November, a meeting with a delegation from Kosovo was held at the University of Warsaw. The discussions focused on the possibilities for developing academic cooperation and scientific exchange.

December Welcome Point events

In December, a series of events for international employees and doctoral candidates will take place at the University of Warsaw. Workshops and training sessions are organised by the University of Warsaw Welcome Point. Participants will learn more about Polish academic culture and legalisation procedures. Participation is free of charge.

On democracy and international security at the UW

“Since its inception, the Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy has stood at the intersection of public administration, civil society and the academic community, serving as a space where defenders of human dignity can speak freely,” emphasised Robert Grey, the UW Chancellor, during the Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy conference, which took place on 2nd December at the University of Warsaw.

The human face of medicine at “Read with the UW”

“The series of books by Atul Gawande is not only for medical professionals, but for anyone who wants to understand what modern medicine looks like,” says Dr Justyna Godlewska-Szyrkowa, Vice Dean for Student Affairs at the UW’s Faculty of Medicine in the first episode of the fifth series of “Read with the UW”. We present a new edition of the series, recorded in faculty libraries.

Publication in “Advanced Functional Materials”

A research team led by Prof. Joanna Kargul from the University of Warsaw's Center for New Technologies has published research results on the organisation of photosystem I (PSI) on the surface of graphene. The article appears in the journal “Advanced Functional Materials.”

University of Warsaw in the GRAS 2025

This year's edition of the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects has been published. Nine disciplines offered at the University of Warsaw have been included in the ranking, including – for the first time – sociology and economics.

88 million PLN for UW investments

The University of Warsaw has received funding from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment (PL: FEnIKS) programme. The funds will be used to improve the energy efficiency and accessibility of buildings at Żwirki i Wigury 93 and Nowy Świat 69 in Warsaw.

UW Rector’s Teaching Award 2025

School of Literary Translation Masters, exercises at the National Museum, engagement of students in geographical research projects, reforms of political science teaching programmes, and innovative methods of early school education. This year’s UW Rector’s Teaching Award went to five University employees.
