The Rector’s Annual Report on the university’s activity in 2025

On 24th June, the UW Senate adopted the “Rector’s Annual Report on the University of Warsaw’s Activities in 2025”. The document contains information on the academic community, research and teaching activities, student admissions, international cooperation and academic exchange, relations with the socio-economic environment, investments carried out at the university, and the state of its finances.

The best in Poland

In the latest University Ranking Perspektywy, the University of Warsaw was named the best Polish university, scoring 100 points in the ranking. Jagiellonian University received 99.67 points. Both universities tied for first place. The University of Warsaw also ranks first among universities offering the best degree programmes in Poland.

Topping-out ceremony on Bednarska Street

A new building for the University of Warsaw is under construction at Bednarska 2/4 in Warsaw; it will house, among others, the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies. The new premises will include specialist television, radio and photography studios, a modern Media Studies Research Laboratory. On 22nd June, a topping-out ceremony was held at the construction site.

Admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year

On 9th June, admissions will open for first- and long-cycle studies, as well as some second-cycle studies, at the University of Warsaw. The admissions offer includes over 300 degree programmes. The results will be announced on 22nd July.

UW a leader of the “Horizon Europe” programme

The University of Warsaw maintains its position as a leader in Poland among scientific institutions that are beneficiaries of the European Union Framework Programme “Horizon Europe”. Researchers from the UW participate in the implementation of 135 projects. The UW has received more than EUR 65.7 million net from the programme.

4EU+ Alliance competitions

Academic staff at the University of Warsaw can apply for funding for their projects or the opportunity to carry them out at a 4EU+ Alliance partner institution. The call for applications for two competitions – Visiting Professorships and SEED4EU+ – is open until 13th October. An online information session will take place on 30th June.

20 recipients of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education scholarship for outstanding young researchers

The Minister of Science and Higher Education has announced this year’s list of recipients of the scholarship for outstanding young researchers. Among the recipients are 20 winners from the University of Warsaw.

Summer courses and classes at the University of Warsaw

During the summer, the University of Warsaw offers a wide range of courses, classes, workshops and training programmes – aimed at both the academic community and people from outside the university.

On the future of Europe

On 23rd June, the Leaders Forum powered by Poland: Better Europe took place at the University of Warsaw. Representatives from the worlds of academia, politics, diplomacy, and business discussed the challenges facing Europe in an era of dynamic geopolitical and economic change.

UW against light pollution

The UW Rector’s Team for Ecology and the Climate Change has recommended the use of lighting fixtures with a warm colour temperature not exceeding 2700 K in the University of Warsaw’s outdoor areas. This is the result of the work carried out by the working group on light pollution.

Victory in the “Open University” ranking

The University of Warsaw received two awards in the nationwide “Open University” (”Uczelnia otwarta”) ranking, organised by the Student Parliament of the Republic of Poland in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In the category of traditional universities, the University of Warsaw took first place, whilst in the overall classification, it ranked second in the country.

Picnic for the UW Employees 2026

Team-building, fun and a chance to relax in the gardens of the University of Warsaw Library. On 12th June, the Picnic for the UW Employees took place for the seventh time. We are publishing a photo report from the event.

Doctoral degree conferment ceremonies at the UW

On 13th June, a ceremony was held at the University of Warsaw Library to confer doctoral degrees on new doctoral graduates and to present letters of congratulations to habilitated doctors who had obtained their academic degrees in 2025.

Discovery of a Hellenistic temple

Researchers from the University of Warsaw and the University of Tirana have discovered the remains of a large Hellenistic temple within the site of an ancient city in northern Albania. This is the first Illyrian structure of its kind to be identified in this region and marks another breakthrough in research into the so-called “lost city”.

Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for Prof. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk

The President of the Republic of Poland, Dr Karol Nawrocki, has posthumously awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta to Prof. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk – Dean of the UW’s Faculty of Political Science and International Studies.
