Five research teams composed of representatives of UW and at least two other 4EU+ member institutions received funding in the first mini-grant call supporting 4EU+ collaboration in Flagship 2.
Joint research projects in Flagship 2 “Europe in a changing world: understanding societies, economies, cultures and languages” as well as projects addressing challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic will be financed through the UW mini-grants being part of the “Initiative of Excellence – Research University”.
Funding will cover, e.g. preliminary or pilot research, archive and library queries, access to research infrastructure, or monolingual editing.
Five selected projects are in line with the 4EU+ Alliance mission and the thematic scope of Flagship 2. Four of them concern the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic:
- “Central Europe facing the pandemic”; 4EU+ member universities involved in the project: UW, Charles University and Sorbonne University, in collaboration with Université Libre de Bruxelles being part of the network PoSoC19; project coordinator: Doctor Kinga Torbicka from the Center for French Culture and Francophone Studies;
- “Women at universities and COVID-19 pandemic. A preliminary comparative research among Italy, Germany and Poland”; 4EU+ member universities involved in the project: Heidelberg University and University of Milan; project coordinator: Assistant Professor Aneta Ostaszewska from the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Resocialisation;
- “Re-thinking ‘Media Literacy’ in the Age of Coronavirus: Inter- and transcultural e-learning contexts in European universities. A preliminary study of the situation in Italy, Germany and Poland”; 4EU+ member universities involved in the project: Heidelberg University and University of Milan; project coordinator: Associate Professor Silvia Bonacchi from the Faculty of Applied Linguistics;
- “Modernizations: States, Conflicts, Culture and Societies in Central Europe”; 4EU+ member universities involved in the project: Charles University, Heidelberg University, Sorbonne University and University of Milan; project coordinator: Professor Paweł Rodak from the Faculty of Polish Studies;
- “De-democratization at the times of Covid-19”; 4EU+ member universities involved in the project: UW, Charles University and University of Milan; project coordinator: Assistant Professor Łukasz Zamęcki from the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies.
Following the pilot call, the next mini-grant competition (announced in mid-September) will be open to all four 4EU+ Flagship programmes:
