On 1st October, at 2 pm, the inauguration ceremony of the 2024/2025 academic year at the University of Warsaw will begin with the presence of university authorities and guests. The event will take place in the Auditorium Maximum on the Main Campus at Krakowskie Przedmieście. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the UW’s Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, the NCBR research group leader.
The inauguration of the new academic year at the University of Warsaw will be held on 1st October at 2 pm in the Adam Mickiewicz Hall in the Auditorium Maximum on the UW campus at Krakowskie Przedmieście. The ceremony will be opened by the Rector, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, who will give an inauguration speech.
Afterwards, the matriculation marking the formal admission of students to the University of Warsaw community will start. First- and second-cycle students and doctoral candidates who obtained the best results in the admissions process will take the oath. Representatives of students and doctoral candidates will also give speeches.
The inaugural lecture on the role of artificial intelligence in science (“Revolution or curiosity. What role will AI play in science?”) will be delivered by Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw, the NCBR research group leader and a scientist who was the first in Poland to win four prestigious European Research Council grants. Prof Sankowski’s research concerns the design and analysis of fast approximation algorithms for problems where a computer solution is impossible due to very time-consuming calculations.
