We are publishing the CENTRAL network’s position in the case of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The University of Warsaw is one of the vivid partners of the network.
CENTRAL stands with Ukraine

The invasion of Ukraine by the armed forces of the Russian Federation is a brutal breach of international law, which the universities united in CENTRAL condemn in the strongest possible terms. Central Europe has been the scene of such aggression by totalitarian states several times in the 20th century, both by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The memory of the associated crimes is alive in Central Europe. We have all the more respect for the unshakeable will of the Ukrainian people to establish a democratic constitutional state in their country on the basis of the values we all share and profess.

Ukrainians and their country are an integral part of Europe. We declare our solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom and democracy. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues and the students of Ukraine and will take measures to support them.

The CENTRAL network (Central European Network for Teaching and Research in Academic Liaison) was initiated and founded by Humboldt University Berlin in 2014, with the financial support of DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). The CENTRAL network is a vivid partnership between five renowned Central European universities: the University of Warsaw, the University of Vienna, Humboldt University Berlin, Charles University in Prague, and Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest.

Under the CENTRAL network, diverse research and outreach activities are organised in all fields. CENTRAL is striving to be the Network of Excellence for Central Europe, approaching and propelling multifaced issues: cultural, societal and economic.
