Development of infrastructure and support services at the UW

New buildings, comprehensive renovations of halls of residence, investments totalling nearly one billion zlotys, almost 250 million zlotys from the Scholarship Fund, numerous catering outlets, and improvements to security and psychological support services are just some of the examples illustrating the development of the University of Warsaw over the past six years.

Admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year

On 9th June, admissions will open for first- and long-cycle studies, as well as some second-cycle studies, at the University of Warsaw. The admissions offer includes over 300 degree programmes. The results will be announced on 22nd July.

New measures to ensure the safety of the UW community

“In all the University of Warsaw’s activities and initiatives, we always prioritise the safety of our community members,” says Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector. Over the past year, the University has introduced numerous measures in this area.

CRASP’s position on the campaign “3% for Science, 100% for Poland”

The Presidium of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, of which the University of Warsaw is a member, has published a statement on the “3% for Science, 100% for Poland” initiative. As part of the campaign, a protest is scheduled to take place outside the Sejm on 27th May. . On that day, the UW will observe the Rector’s hours – from 11.30 am to 2.45 pm.

A cetacean from the Lublin region

The remains of a cetacean dating back 38 million years have been discovered in the Lublin Voivodeship. This is the first specimen of its kind from the Eocene and Palaeogene periods to be found in Poland. The research was led by Dr Daniel Tyborowski from the UW’s Faculty of Geology.

A new foundation for biology

An international team of scientists led by Prof. Joanna Sułkowska from the Centre of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw has published research findings in the journal “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” that are changing our understanding of the architecture of life. Student Survey 2026

The University of Warsaw has launched a university-wide student survey on the quality of education, the organisation of studies and the support offered to students. The survey is anonymous, and its results will help the UW better tailor its activities to the needs of the student community. It can be completed until the end of May.

Honorary doctorate for Prof. Adam D. Rotfeld

On 14th May, a ceremony was held in the Senate Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace to award an honorary doctorate from the University of Warsaw to Prof. Adam Daniel Rotfeld – a distinguished expert in international affairs and a member of the UW’s “Artes Liberales” Faculty.

A day with the 4EU+ Alliance

What is the 4EU+ Alliance? What does it offer to students, doctoral candidates, and employees? What experiences can participants in its initiatives share? You will find out all this on 27th May during a meeting at the University of Warsaw. Registration is open until 26th May.

Towards clean energy

An international consortium involving the University of Warsaw has launched a new project funded under the “Horizon Europe” programme. SUN2X-SET focuses on the development of direct solar fuel technologies and is one of the elements designed to accelerate Europe’s transition to clean energy.

Over 10 million for a project in the field of translational medicine

Prof. Karolina Archacka from the UW’s Faculty of Biology is leading a project that has received over PLN 10 million in funding under the Medical Research Agency’s TRANSMED I competition. The researcher’s team will work on a special biomaterial that may aid in the regeneration of skeletal muscles.

The Tree of Rememberance

On 7th May, a symbolic commemoration of Ms Małgorzata Dynak – an employee at our University – took place on the University of Warsaw’s Main Campus. As a token of remembrance and respect, the university community planted a ginkgo tree.

Open Science at the UW

The Open Science Policy, two repositories and regular workshops on Open Science contribute to the implementation of the HR strategy for researchers at the University of Warsaw. As part of the “Spring with HR Excellence in Research” series, we present the activities carried out by the University of Warsaw Library.
