4EU+ for Ukraine

Over 210 participants joined initiatives organised within the 4EU+ for Ukraine project. Its second edition lasts until the end of the year. One of the most recent events in the series was a conference with students organised on 2nd December at the University of Warsaw. A summary meeting of the entire project was held on 10th-11th December.

Cooperation between the UW and a Korean university

On 10th December, the University of Warsaw and Gangneung-Wonju National University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Both parties will develop mutual relations in fields such as education, research, and culture.

Meetings on legal issues concerning residence in Poland

Welcome Point is organising two meetings on legal issues concerning residence in Poland for all international students and doctoral candidates. The meetings will be held online on 11th December (session in English) and 17th December (session in Polish).

UW volunteers recognised

On 5th December, in the Golden Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace, a meeting organised by the Volunteer Centre of the University of Warsaw was held, during which diplomas were awarded to the most active volunteers. The event was attended by Dr Maciej Raś, the UW’s Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching, and Katarzyna Żakowska, Director of the VC UW.

4EU+ shared courses initiative: Call for proposals

UW academic teachers can once again submit proposals for courses, in an online or hybrid mode, to the 4EU+ shared courses initiative. The courses will begin in the summer semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. They will be made available to students and doctoral candidates from 4EU+ Alliance member universities. The call is open until 2oth January.

Recruitment for the 4EU+ Secretary General

The 4EU+ Alliance seeks its Secretary General. Their role will be to ensure the effective functioning of the 4EU+ Alliance as a dynamic consortium of cooperating universities. Applications can be submitted until 17th January 2025.

Equality at UW 2024

The second part of the university-wide research “Equality at UW 2024” has started.  The survey is open to students, doctoral candidates and employees of the University of Warsaw. The survey will be active until 12th January.

On the Polish Presidency of the EU Council

Prof. Adam Niewiadomski, the UW Vice-Rector for Doctoral and Legal Affairs, Prof. Agata Zalewska, Dean of the Faculty of „Artes Liberales”, Prof. Stanisław Rabiej, and Prof. Hans-Gert Pöttering, former President of the European Parliament opened a meeting on the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which was held on 15th November at the UW.

“Einstein Telescope” Annual Meeting

500 scientists from across Europe attended the international annual meeting of researchers involved in the Einstein Telescope (ET) project. During the event, progress and plans for the construction of an advanced gravitational wave observatory were discussed. The leader of the Polish ET consortium is Prof. Tomasz Bulik, Director of the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw.

MoU between UW and HUST

The University of Warsaw has concluded a cooperation agreement with the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). The two institutions have expressed their desire to carry out joint research projects in areas such as physics, sinology, and political science. The agreement envisages, among other things, academic exchanges or joint cultural programmes.

“MagicalBotanical” at the UW

On 9th November, the UW Botanic Garden has once again been transformed into a land of light. The illumination exhibition will take visitors on a journey through the magic of the four elements: fire, water, air and earth. This year, visitors to the Garden of Lights will be treated to both new constructions and familiar illuminations, as well as a family outdoor game.
