University of Warsaw Office for Security Affairs

On 1st July, the University of Warsaw launched its Office for Security Affairs – a specialised unit responsible for coordinating all activities related to the protection of people and property on university area.

University of Warsaw is among the top 3% of universities worldwide. In the latest QS World University Rankings, it achieved the highest position among Polish higher education institutions.

Poland’s contribution to the quantum future

Scientists from the University of Warsaw and the University of British Columbia have described how the "lone spinon" phenomenon can arise in magnetic models. This discovery represents a significant contribution to our understanding of the nature of magnetism and could have implications for the development of future technologies such as quantum computers and new magnetic materials.

Meeting with the Ambassador of Portugal

On 7th July, Professor Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, met with the Ambassador of Portugal to Poland. Discussions with Mário M. Duarte focused on the possibility of expanding academic cooperation with Portuguese institutions.

Survey for doctoral candidates at the UW

On 2nd June, the University-wide survey “Situation of doctoral candidates studying at UW Doctoral Schools – 2025” was launched. The survey will be available until 14th July.

Third edition of the SEED4EU+ initiative

SEED is the 4EU+ Alliance initiative, which allows inter-university teams to receive funding for their educational or research projects. Applications are open until 3rd October.

Project Management at 4EU+

"Entrepreneurial and Intrapreneurial Project Management" is a postgraduate program offered by the 4EU+ Alliance. Enrollment is open until 31st July.

On counteracting of discrimination and mobbing at the University of Warsaw

On 27th June, University of Warsaw hosted a conference as part of the project University – a safe space from mobbing and discrimination – activities to support anti-mobbing policies, conducted by a team of researchers led by Prof. Jacek Męcina from the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw.

Meeting with the Ambassador of Sudan

On 3rd July, the University of Warsaw hosted a visit by Ilham Ahmed, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan, who met with Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the University of Warsaw. The discussions focused on the possibility of developing cooperation between the University of Warsaw and Sudanese universities and supporting efforts to rebuild Sudan after the armed conflict.

17 Ministry of Science scholarships for young scientists

The Minister of Science and Higher Education awarded scholarships to 228 outstanding young scientists. Among the winners are 17 people from the University of Warsaw.

On Warsaw rap at “Read with the UW”

A fish from the era of the dinosaurs

Palaeontologists from the University of Warsaw and Polish Geological Institute – National Geological Institute have described the remains of a Jurassic ray-finned fish from the pycnodont group. It is a “cousin” of modern parrotfishes. The research was led by Dr Daniel Tyborowski, a palaeontologist from the Faculty of Geology at the University of Warsaw.
