Around 4,000 international students and doctoral candidates are studying at the University of Warsaw. Most come from Ukraine, Belarus, China and Turkey, but also from India, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. On 21st May, the University is organising the “Miasteczko na Styku Kultur – Cultural HotSpot” festival for the fifth time. The call for ideas is now open.

For several years now, the Welcome Point team at the University of Warsaw, in collaboration with the Volunteer Centre of UW, the UW Student Union and the Student Union of the UW Faculty of Asian and African Cultures (formerly the Faculty of Oriental Studies), has been organising the “Miasteczko na Styku Kultur – Cultural HotSpot” festival. This is an event during which international students – who make up a significant part of the academic community – can showcase their cultures (traditions, language, music and cuisine).

The festival will take place on 21st May this year – for the fifth time. Each edition helps to bring international students closer to the wider University community.

Multicultural Team

UW students, doctoral candidates and staff, as well as those taking part in the Foundation Year course, are invited to join the Multicultural Team and submit their ideas for cultural activities – presentations of specific cultural elements (e.g. crafts, art, language, music, dance, everyday practices or traditions), preferably in a format that engages participants. This could be, for example, a demonstration, a collaborative activity or another experience that encourages participation and allows participants to gain a better understanding of the cultural element in question.

Applications are being accepted until 23rd April. Further details are available on the Volunteer Centre’s of UW website – wolontariat.uw.edu.pl >>

Ideas Workshop

On 14th April, there will be an event open to anyone who wishes to refine their ideas or learn more about the “Miasteczko na Styku Kultur – Cultural HotSpot” initiative and the other participants.

The workshop will be held in English and is open to students, doctoral candidates, and staff of the University of Warsaw, as well as participants of the Foundation Year programme who are planning to submit their ideas for “Miasteczko na Styku Kultur – Cultural HotSpot UW”.

To take part in the event, the participants have to submit their application by 12th April inclusive.
