Admissions to the University of Warsaw’s doctoral schools will open on 14th April. There are 325 places available across 26 academic disciplines. Applications are to be submitted via the Internet Recruitment for Candidates System.
The University of Warsaw has four doctoral schools: the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School, the Doctoral School of Humanities, the Doctoral School of Social Sciences, and the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences. Currently, over 1,700 doctoral candidates are enrolled in these schools, conducting research across a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines.
The admissions process is conducted entirely online via the Internet Recruitment for Candidates System (IRK). Applications will open on 14th April and close on 21st May. Then, an assessment of the documents will take place, including research proposals and the candidates’ academic achievements. The next stage consists of examinations (at the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences) and interviews at all doctoral schools. The results of the admissions process will be announced in July.
Industrial Doctoral Programme
As every year, recruitment will also take place for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s Industrial Doctoral Programme. It is designed for those who wish to carry out a doctoral project in collaboration with an employer – a company or other business entity. The outcome of such collaboration will be the implementation in the workplace of solutions that form the subject of the doctoral thesis. Detailed information will be available on the doctoral schools’ websites and in the IRK system.
Detailed rules and deadlines will be published once they have been announced by the Ministry. Up-to-date information is available on the doctoral schools’ websites.
Scholarship to Start
“Scholarship to Start”, funded entirely by the UW, has been prepared for the best candidates admitted to the University of Warsaw’s doctoral schools. It is awarded to the top 20% of candidates with the best results in each discipline.
Scholarships for doctoral candidates
Students enrolled in doctoral programmes receive a scholarship for a period of 48 months. The scholarship currently amounts to PLN 4,242 gross (prior to the mid-term assessment) and PLN 5,340.90 gross per month (following the mid-term assessment). Doctoral candidates with a disability certificate receive a doctoral scholarship increased by PLN 1,040.70 gross per month.
Supervisors
At the recruitment stage, candidates are required to name a supervisor. A search tool available on the Doctoral Schools Forum website, containing profiles of academic employees ready to supervise doctoral candidates, is helpful in making this choice: https://promotorzy.szkolydoktorskie.uw.edu.pl/en.
