At the University of Warsaw, a meeting was held between Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, Prof. Agata Bareja-Starzyńska, the Dean of the UW’s Faculty of Oriental Studies, and Prof. Mark Elliott, the Vice Provost of International Affairs at Harvard University. The discussions concerned joint UW activities with Harvard University and other American universities.
The meeting between Prof Alojzy Z. Nowak, Prof Agata Bareja-Starzyńska, and Prof Mark Elliott took place on 15th November in the Kazimierzowski Palace on the UW campus at Krakowskie Przedmieście. The discussion subjects included the development of scientific projects at the University of Warsaw, including the “UW in Silicon Valley” programme, and the directions of joint activities between the University of Warsaw, Harvard University and other American universities. Prof. Elliott also presented the cooperation programmes between Harvard University and Polish scientific institutions implemented to date.
Prof. Mark Elliott is the Vice Provost of International Affairs at Harvard University. He is a sinologist, a specialist in Chinese history and an expert on Manchurian documents. He has worked with the UW for many years.
On 14th November, at the invitation of the UW’s Faculty of Oriental Studies, he delivered the inaugural lecture at the 13th International Oriental Studies Conference held at the University of Warsaw. The main theme of the conference was “Studies on Asia and Africa. Old Subjects, New Approaches?”.
