The development of cooperation between the University of Warsaw and Japanese universities was the subject of discussions at a meeting between Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, and a delegation from Japan. Among the University’s guests were Akira Koni, the Japanese Ambassador to Poland, and Daisuke Yamashita, the First Secretary.
On 14th November, a meeting between Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector and a delegation from Japan was held in the Golden Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace. The main topic of discussion was the development of cooperation between the University of Warsaw and Japanese universities, among other bilateral agreements. The talks also concerned the visit of Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, planned for early December.
The meeting organised at the UW was attended by Akira Koni, the Ambassador of Japan to Poland, and Daisuke Yamashita, the First Secretary, Director at the Information and Culture Center, Head of the Political Section at the Embassy of Japan in Poland. The University of Warsaw was represented by Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Sambor Grucza, the UW Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Human Resources, Prof. Robert Grey, the UW Chancellor, Prof. Iwona Kordzińska-Nawrocka, the Head of the Department of Japanese Studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies and Anna Sadecka, the Head of the International Relations Office.
During the meeting, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, emphasised the interest of Polish students in Japanese culture and language, as well as UW’s long tradition of cooperation with Japanese universities.
The University of Warsaw carries out cooperation with higher education institutions from Japan under 21 university-wide agreements and 9 faculty agreements. In the 2023/24 academic year, the University hosted 25 short-term students from Japan and 11 full-time students. 19 students from the UW went on a student exchange to Japan.
