A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Warsaw and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). The two institutions have expressed their desire to carry out joint research projects in areas such as physics, sinology, and political science. The agreement envisages, among other things, academic exchanges or joint cultural programmes. The event was attended by the authorities of the UW and HUST, scientists from both universities and high-ranking officials from the People’s Republic of China.

The Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a comprehensive, public, and research university in Wuhan. It is a renowned institution highly ranked in the international rankings of the world’s best universities. It ranks 79th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2024, 25th in the Times Higher Education (Asia University Rankings 2024), and 100th in the US News Ranking 2024.

 

On 21 November, the University of Warsaw authorities, representatives of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and a delegation from the PRC met in the Golden Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace.

 

“The University of Warsaw has been cooperating with numerous universities from China for many years. We have well-developed academic exchanges and conduct teaching and research projects. I am pleased that we will sign an agreement with another university, the Huazhong University of Science and Technology. I hope that we will jointly pursue initiatives in many areas and scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, medicine or linguistics, as well as initiatives in the field of innovation or transfer of new technologies,” said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the University of Warsaw Rector, during a meeting with representatives of the Chinese delegation.

The event at the UW was attended by Xin Lin, Vice Minister from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and the representatives of the ministerial departments: Jian Sun, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation; Tian Zhang, Director of Division of Eurasian Affairs, Department of International Cooperation; Dongqing Zhang, Deputy Director-General of General Office; Huiqin Ma, Interpreter, China Science and Technology Exchange Center; Dawei Xu, Project Officer, China Science and Technology Exchange Center. Also, among the attendees were the representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Poland: Jiayi Cheng, Counsellor for Science and Technology Affairs; Dejun Duan, Second Secretary, and Lin Li, Second Secretary.

 

“It is a priority of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China to support numerous activities in research, innovation and new technologies areas. Our presence today demonstrates that we are open to international, inter-university cooperation, bringing advantages to our academic communities and nations. The University of Warsaw and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology are institutions that boast many scientific achievements, ” said Xin Lin, the PRC’s Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

 

The University of Warsaw authorities were represented by Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the UW, Prof. Sambor Grucza, Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Human Resources, Prof. Maciej Raś, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching and Learning, and Robert Grey, Chancellor of the UW.

 

The meeting was also attended by Prof. Wojciech Satuła, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Prof. Józef Pawłowski, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and Prof. Ryszard Buczyński from the Faculty of Physics.
