Until 31st January, newly enrolled students and doctoral candidates at the University of Warsaw can apply for the “Scholarship to Start” – for Olympians, athletes, or doctoral candidates.

The “Scholarship to Start” programme is organised for the second time within the Rector’s Scholarship Fund. Persons who have started their education in the 2023/2024 academic year in first-, second-, or full-cycle programmes and at doctoral schools can apply for support.

The programme includes three types of scholarships:
  • “Scholarship to Start for Olympians” – intended for students in the first year of studies of the first-, second-, and full-cycle studies who are laureates of school Olympiads and who, in the admission procedure obtained the maximum number of points on the basis of their title of laureate of a school Olympiad;
  • “Scholarship to Start for Athletes” – intended for students in the first year of first-, second-, and full-cycle studies and doctoral candidates in the first year of doctoral school who are outstanding athletes who have achieved a scoring position at the Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships or Polish Championships (but no further than tenth place), and in the case of students – who are entitled to the Rector’s scholarship in the academic year in which they apply for the “Scholarship to Start”;
  • “Scholarship to Start for Doctoral Students” – intended for doctoral candidates in their first year of doctoral school who have achieved a point score in the admission procedure that is in the top 20% of the admitted (as at 1st October of the academic year), separately for: Interdisciplinary Doctoral School, Warsaw Doctoral School of Mathematics and Computer Science (within the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences), and in other cases: separately for each doctoral school by discipline of learning.

To apply for the scholarship, an application form must be completed and submitted to the UW’s Student Welfare and Support Office by 31st January (along with attachments confirming the achievements – with the exception of applicants for “Scholarship to Start for Doctoral Students”).

 

The amount of the scholarship will be published after the application stage. Financial support is awarded for twelve months. Funds will be paid in a single payment within thirty days of award.

One hundred and seventy-one students were awarded scholarships in the first edition of the “Scholarships to Start” programme. Among the awardees, there were eighty-one recipients of the “Scholarships to Start for Olympians”, forty-two recipients of the “Scholarships to Start for Athletes” and forty-eight recipients of the “Scholarships to Start for Doctoral Candidates”.
