On 4th May, the University of Warsaw was visited by a Portuguese delegation led by Prof. Augusto Santos Silva, the President of the Assembly of the Republic. During the visit, Prof. Silva met with Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, and delivered a lecture at the Faculty of Modern Languages.

5th May is known as the World Portuguese Language Day, established by UNESCO. On this occasion, Prof. Augusto Santos Silva, the President of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic delivered a lecture at the Faculty of Modern Languages, University of Warsaw. Prof. Silva is also a researcher, active in the field of sociology. In the 1990s, he served as the Vice-Rector of the University of Porto. In his lecture, the politician focused on the issue of Portuguese as a global language in the 21st century. The topic was presented in the context of various experiences of the Portuguese-speaking societies.

 

The meeting of the Portuguese delegation with Prof. Alozy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, was centred around such topics as the situation of higher education in Poland and Portugal, common projects and expectations regarding Polish-Portuguese relations. The event was attended also by Portuguese members of parliament and Luís Manuel Ribeiro Cabaço, the Ambassador of Portugal to Poland.
