On 17th July, the award ceremony of the International Green Gown Awards 2023 was held. The project of the University of Warsaw Green Thinking Matter Now!, coordinated by the Platform for Green Dialogue, was granted with the title Highly commended.

During this year’s edition of the competition, 93 finalists from 25 countries were selected. The prize was awarded in eight categories. The UW’s project Green Thinking Matter Now! received the title Highly commended, placing second in the category Creating Impact. The winner of the category was Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Peru.

Green Thinking Matter Now! is the initiative of the UW’s Platform for Green Dialogue to connect academics, students, business, authorities and NGOs around climate change and sustainable development. It facilitates the transfer of knowledge between these groups in all directions, helps to recognise areas of their common interest, initiates forms of cooperation and manages projects.

“There is no planet B; we have one chance – and it’s worth fighting for. This Green Gown Award is precious confirmation that our cause is worthy, and our actions are right. We value it highly and hope it will help us set an example for others,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, said.

Established in 2004, the Green Gown Awards distinguish the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges. The prize is given by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges: The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education, supported by the UN Environmental Programme and key higher education organisations around the world.
