The UW Rector’s Annual Report 2024

On 25th June, the UW Senate adopted “The University of Warsaw Rector’s Annual Report 2024”. The document is a comprehensive source of information about each group of the academic community, educational offer, research activities, relations with the socio-economic environment, finances and investments. It also contains the calendar of the most important events in the past year.

Two ERC grants at the UW

Prof. Dominika Zgid and Prof. Joanna Mizielińska have been awarded prestigious Advanced European Research Council (ERC) grants. The projects they will carry out at the University of Warsaw concern the modelling of disorder in crystalline materials and LGBTIQ* families in Central and Eastern Europe.

Admissions for studies 2025/2026

More than 270 programmes await future students of the University of Warsaw. Admissions for first-cycle, full-cycle and selected second-cycle degree programmes in the 2025/2026 academic year began on 5th June and will continue until 9th July. The results will be announced on 22nd July.

Safety at the UW

The University of Warsaw has launched a new website where you can learn how to act in an emergency situation: fire, accident, contamination or finding a suspicious object. The university also has an emergency telephone number: (22 55) 22 112.

Changes to the material support system for UW students

The University of Warsaw is implementing changes to its financial support system in response to the needs and requests expressed by students – particularly regarding the allocation of places in student dormitories.

Medals for the University of Warsaw guards

Tomasz Radzki and Dariusz Paszkowski, guards of the University of Warsaw, who heroically stood in defense of Mrs. Małgorzata on 7th May, received the University of Warsaw medals and Medals for Sacrifice and Courage awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland.

A fish from the era of the dinosaurs

Palaeontologists from the University of Warsaw and Polish Geological Institute – National Geological Institute have described the remains of a Jurassic ray-finned fish from the pycnodont group. It is a “cousin” of modern parrotfishes. The research was led by Dr Daniel Tyborowski, a palaeontologist from the Faculty of Geology at the University of Warsaw.

On Warsaw rap at “Read with the UW”

How to teach Polish as a foreign language? Can rap be helpful with that? Is hip-hop culture just music, or is it something more? Student Hall of Residence No. 7 with the “Accessibility Leader” award

On 16th June, the final gala of the “Accessibility Leader” competition for facilities best adapted to the needs of all users was held. The award in the 10th edition of the competition in the “residential/hotel facility” category went to the Student Hall of Residence No. 7. UW’s recreation centre - “Wrzos” Holiday Home in Kiry was also nominated for the final of the competition.

The UW student hall of residence no. 7 at Sulimy 4 was honoured with the Architectural Award of the President of the City of Warsaw. The distinction in the 11th edition of the competition was awarded in the “residential architecture” category.

University of Warsaw in QS World University Rankings

University of Warsaw is among the top 3% of universities worldwide. In the latest QS World University Rankings, it achieved the highest position among Polish higher education institutions.

Survey for doctoral candidates at the UW

On 2nd June, the University-wide survey “Situation of doctoral candidates studying at UW Doctoral Schools – 2025” was launched. The survey will be available until 14th July.

Survey of working conditions of university teachers at UW

The fourth edition of a survey is being held at the University of Warsaw to assess the degree of implementation of the principles of the European Charter for Researchers at the university. The survey is available until 7th July.

Conference on the security of Central and Eastern Europe at the UW

“Together for a secure Europe”. This was the motto of the Central and Eastern European Security Forum held at the University of Warsaw. On 16th and 17th June, European and American experts in geopolitics, the economy or cyber security debated on the university's Main Campus. The forum was opened by Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, and Robert Grey, the UW Chancellor.

Delegation from Peru at the UW

“The University of Warsaw and the Universidad Católica de Santa María in Arequipa are connected not only by research and educational relations, but also by friendship and allegiance to common values" - Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, said during a meeting with representatives from the Peruvian Embassy in Poland. The visit took place on 23rd May.
