Spring with “HR Excellence in Research”

We are launching a series of articles on the latest completed or planned initiatives aimed at the professional development of employees at the University of Warsaw, in line with the European Charter for Researchers.

UW Open Day 2026

Demonstration lessons, numerous meetings, discussions and attractions awaited visitors to the University of Warsaw during this year’s Open Day. On the Main Campus, faculties, departments, as well as sports and cultural organisations operating at the university presented their offer.

Security measures at the University of Warsaw

The Security Office, intervention measures for the UW’s Security Guard, talks with the services – the University of Warsaw has taken numerous endeavours to strengthen security on campus. Further measures are also planned in the near future, including training, new alarm systems and the installation of CCTV surveillance in all University of Warsaw buildings.

A tree of remembrance

On 7th May at 12 noon, a symbolic commemoration of Ms Małgorzata Dynak – an employee at our University – will take place on the UW’s Main Campus. The ceremony is open to the public; we invite everyone who wishes to honour her memory in silence and reflection.

Excellence and development of teaching at the University of Warsaw

The project “Excellence and development of teaching at the University of Warsaw” is currently underway; its aim is to comprehensively improve the quality of education and develop the teaching skills of academic and doctoral employees. The initiative forms part of the university’s strategic efforts to promote modern, high-quality teaching.

Admissions to the UW doctoral schools for the 2026/2027 academic year

Admissions to the University of Warsaw’s doctoral schools will open on 14th April. There are 325 places available across 26 academic disciplines. Applications are to be submitted via the Internet Recruitment for Candidates System.

Ethical challenges associated with AI

Ethical dilemmas concerning the use of AI tools were the subject of a meeting of the Sejm’s Standing Sub-Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic Transparency, which took place on 27th April at the University of Warsaw.

Juwenalia 2026

On 8th and 9th May, the University of Warsaw will host a musical festival for students. Performers at Juwenalia will include Hubert., LemON, Kosma Król, and Perfect & Łukasz Drapała. Juwenalia are days when there are no classes.

International cooperation

Joint research, teaching projects and academic exchanges link the University of Warsaw with over 1,000 organisations, including many abroad – universities, research and educational centres, as well as cultural institutions. As part of the “HR Excellence in Research” series, we present the UW’s latest initiatives in the field of international cooperation.

Renewal of Prof. Jacek Lipkowski’s doctoral degree

On 23rd April, a ceremony marking the renewal of Prof. Jacek Lipkowski’s doctoral degree – an eminent chemist of international renown – took place in the Senate Hall of the Casimir Palace.

Programmes, training courses, and advisory services

In this episode of the “Spring with HR Excellence in Research” series, we highlight development initiatives for employees at the University of Warsaw. These include the Academy of Science Communication, the Programme for Young Female Researchers and Teachers, and the “Welcome to the UW!” initiative.

Increasing the amount of doctoral scholarships

Following a decision by the Rector of the University of Warsaw Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak the amount of scholarships for doctoral candidates will be increased.

A new iron meteorite in Poland

On 17th April, a very bright object flew over the Greater Poland and Łódź provinces and was recorded by cameras belonging to the nationwide Skytinel fireball network. Data from 11 cameras and two spectrographs indicated that an iron meteorite weighing several kilograms had fallen in the municipality of Zadzim, near Łódź. The meteorite was found five days after the fall.

Erasmus for all

Since the launch of the Erasmus+ programme at the University of Warsaw, the university has facilitated around 50,000 outgoing and incoming exchanges. On 16th April, a national meeting of programme coordinators was held at the UW’s Centre for New Technologies, during which participants discussed factors influencing ways to enhance the benefits for Erasmus+ beneficiaries.
