On 21st November, the President of the Republic of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, visited the University of Warsaw. During the meeting, he gave a lecture on global politics and the relationship between East and West. “It is a great privilege to be able to learn from Finland, which shows us the directions of research and technological development,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the University of Warsaw, said.
Sauli Niinistö has been the President of the Republic of Finland since 2012. During his career, he has held positions such as Minister of Justice, Minister of Finance and President of the Finnish Parliament, among others.
On 21st November, a meeting between the University’s community and the Finnish President took place in the Column Hall of the UW’s Faculty of History.
“We are continuously developing relations with Finnish universities. Many young people from Finland are studying at the University of Warsaw, and many Polish students are eager to pursue their education in Finland. Our countries share a similar history”, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the University of Warsaw, said.
President Sauli Niinistö gave a lecture on global politics and relations between East and West. The speech addressed the issue of security in Europe in the face of the war in Ukraine and the role of collective defence in the quest to restore peace.
“Together we can set the course of development. We must not remain passive in the face of problems that affect us all,” Sauli Niinistö indicated. The Finnish President also emphasised the role of education in shaping positive international relations.
