The University of Warsaw is the finalist of the International Green Gown Awards 2023 competition. The judges have recognised the University’s project Green Thinking Matter Now!, an initiative to connect academics, students, business, authorities and NGOs around climate change and sustainable development.

Established in 2004, the Green Gown Awards distinguish the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges. The prize is given by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges: The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education, supported by the UN Environmental Programme and key higher education organisations around the world.

 

During this year’s edition 93 finalists from 25 countries were selected. The prize is awarded in eight categories. The UW’s project was placed in the category Creating Impact.

 

Green Thinking Matter Now! is the University of Warsaw’s initiative to connect academics, students, business, authorities and NGOs around climate change and sustainable development. It facilitates the transfer of knowledge between these groups in all directions, helps to recognise areas of their common interest, initiates forms of cooperation and manages projects.

 

Other finalists of the competition in the category Creating Impact are: Emlyon Business School in France, American International University Bangladesh, University of Pennsylvania, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, University of Sydney and Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Peru.

The winners will be announced on 17th July at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, hosted by The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), L’Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and The International Association of Universities (IAU).
