The University of Warsaw shows its solidarity with the protesters in Belarus after the country’s disputed presidential election. As of 21st August, Belarusian flags were put in front of the Kazimierzowski Palace.
“Our academic community supports everyone who is in favour of free and democratic Belarus. We want to express our appreciation and solidarity. You set an example to follow,” says Prof. Marcin Pałys, the University of Warsaw Rector, adding: “The role of universities, including the University of Warsaw, is to provide education and research. Therefore, in this area, our university will continue and extend the activities to help people harmed by the repressive response of the Belarusian authorities.”
As part of the Konstanty Kalinowski Scholarship Programme (dedicated young Belarusians who cannot study in their country because of their political beliefs), students dismissed from universities in Belarus receive scholarships for full degree studies in Poland, as well as one-year training internships in Warsaw.
The Centre for East European Studies coordinates this programme at UW. Due to the current situation in Belarus and the expected increase in the number of harmed people, it was decided to open an additional admission. One can submit their applications starting from 31st August (admission will be open until the limit of places is reached).
