1st October marks the beginning of the academic year 2019/2020. On that day, Prof. Marcin Pałys, UW rector, will open the solemn ceremony that will be held at 2 pm in the Auditorium Maximum building.
Following the tradition, the rector and vice-rectors of the University of Warsaw, members of the Senate and representatives of other universities, all dressed in togas, will meet in front of the Kazimierzowski Palace, which houses the UW administration offices, and walk to the Auditorium Maximum building where the inauguration of the new academic year takes place.
During the ceremony, there will be the following order:
- The national anthem
- Rector’s speech
- Matriculation
- Speeches of the representative of students and doctoral students
- First academic lecture
The first academic lecture will be delivered by Prof. Andrzej Udalski from the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw, leader of the OGLE project. The UW scientist will speak about the latest research of the UW astronomers and the construction of the 3D map of the Milky Way.
The inauguration will begin on 1st October at 2 pm in the Auditorium Maximum building. It will be held in Polish.
