Doctor Piotr Nowak is the first Polish mathematician, who received ERC grant. He will be working on the project titled: „Rigidity of groups and higher index theory”.

 

Scientist works at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw and at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

 

The project „Rigidity of groups and higher index theory”, will be realized at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its value is 880 thousands Euro.

 

It is 18th grant of the European Research Council awarded to Polish scientists. In this year, 2920 people were applying for ERC Starting Grant. 300 of them have been awarded. Among them, were doctor Piotr Nowak and doctor Marek Cygan – from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw.

 

Besides ERC grant, doctor Piotr Nowak got scholarships from Polish institutions, among others, the Foundation of Polish Science, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education or the National Science Centre.
