Rules of study at the UW, 4 ERC grants, ECEG, Polish consortium in DARIAH-ERIC and University’s multiannual development plan. These are the university’s most important events of 2015.

 

ERC grants

In 2015 the UW received 4 European Research Council grants. Among recognized scholars are 3 employees of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics:

  • Piotr Sankowski (project: Practical Approximation Algorithms),
  • Dr Marek Cygan (project: Technology transfer between modern algorithmic paradigms),
  • Mikołaj Bojańczyk (project: A unified theory of finite-state recognisability).

 

Last in this year, but not least ERC award was granted to a scientist from the Faculty of “Artes Liberales”:

  • Katarzyna Marciniak (project: Our Mythical Childhood… The Reception of Classical Antiquity in Children’s and Young Adults’ Culture in Response to Regional and Global Challenges).

 

The European Centre for Geological Education

In October the University of Warsaw has opened the European Centre for Geological Education (ECEG) in Chęciny in the Holy Cross Mountains. In the centre geologists will be able to not only collect valuable samples, but also prepare and analyse them in specialised laboratories. The centre will be available for both students and staff of the University of Warsaw and for the guests from the outside of the academia.

 

Polish consortium joined DARIAH-ERIC

The University of Warsaw coordinates the Polish network – DARIAH-PL which became a member of the Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities (DARIAH-ERIC) – an European network, aims to improve and support digitally-enabled research and teaching across the humanities and arts. Polish consortium is one of the largest in an European network.

 

University’s multiannual development plan

In November the Polish government adopted a special resolution supporting the UW. Until 2025 the University will receive PLN 945 m (about EUR 220 m) out of the state budget funds. It will be possible to construct investments for units engaged in humanities and social sciences.

 

New university’s rules

One of the most significant event was a new rules of study. In April the Senate of the University of Warsaw has adopted the resolution on the enactment of the Rules of Study at the University of Warsaw. It has become effective on 1st October 2015.
