The results of the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities, also called the Shanghai Ranking, are out. The University of Warsaw is ranked between 401–500.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is one of the most prestigious university rankings in the world. It has been published since 2003 and features 1,000 best rated universities.

 

In this year’s edition of the ranking there are nine Polish universities. The University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University take the highest positions in this group. Both universities are ranked between 401–500.

 

The top positions are held by American universities: Harvard University, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

 

Universities listed in the Shanghai Ranking are ranked by several indicators of academic or research performance, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in “Nature” and “Science”, papers indexed in major citation indices of the Web of Science™: Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index™, and the per capita academic performance of an institution.
