On 25th June, the UW Senate adopted “The University of Warsaw Rector’s Annual Report 2024”. The document is a comprehensive source of information about each group of the academic community, educational offer, research activities, relations with the socio-economic environment, finances and investments. It also contains the calendar of the most important events in the past year.
Adopted during the last meeting of the UW Senate before the summer break, the report is the fifth such document prepared during Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak’s rectorial tenure.
“The year 2024 has brought many reasons to be proud of the activities undertaken for the benefit of our university. It was a time of hard work, important decisions and numerous achievements, which we owe to the joint efforts of the entire academic community. I firmly believe that thanks to our determination, cooperation and commitment, we will consistently pursue the mission and strategy of the University of Warsaw, developing it as a centre of modern education, research and responsible leadership. I sincerely thank you for your daily work, passion and dedication to our Alma Mater,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, writes in the introduction to the document, while thanking once again for the trust of the community, which has appointed him to lead the University for the second consecutive time in 2024.
The report presents the most important numerical and statistical data on students, doctoral candidates, postgraduate students, graduates, as well as employees of the University of Warsaw. It presents the course and results of university enrolment, the educational offer, forms of material and psychological support. The document also contains the University-wide development programmes, as well as how IT tools function and what digital projects the University is implementing.
It also provides an overview of academic achievements to date, including the ones within the framework of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Programme, an analysis of the library collection, as well as a description of measures for internationalisation or cooperation with business.
Financial information is also included: about the University’s income, costs, expenses and the implementation of the financial plan. In addition, the document presents the University’s properties, ongoing investments and plans for the Multi-Annual Programme.
The report additionally contains information on the popularisation of science, the UW’s presence in the media and the promotion of its image.
Elections, Annual Meeting and new student hall of residence
The Rector’s Report traditionally also presents a calendar of the most important events at the University of Warsaw in 2024. It describes election activities at the university, important visits and meetings, including a lecture by the President of the European Parliament, the annual 4EU+ meeting and the assumption of the presidency of the Alliance by the Rector of the UW, grants awarded by the European Research Council (ERC) or newly commissioned investments: Student Hall of Residence No. 7 on Sulimy Street and the building in the Upper Courtyard on Krakowskie Przedmieście.
