In the latest University Ranking Perspektywy, the University of Warsaw was named the best Polish university, scoring 100 points in the ranking. Jagiellonian University received 99.67 points. Both universities tied for first place. The University of Warsaw also ranks first among universities offering the best degree programmes in Poland.

This is the 27th edition of the ranking. From the very beginning, the top two places have been occupied by the University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University. The UW has won thirteen times, the Jagiellonian University nine times, and this year both universities tied for first place for the fifth time. The Warsaw University of Technology came third among academic institutions.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to my Colleagues at the University of Warsaw, particularly those representing the faculties and degree programmes that have been recognised today. I would also like to congratulate the other universities featured in the ranking. Our cooperation has been developing rapidly of late; we have signed numerous agreements concerning cyber security, quantum physics, and the social sciences and humanities. I am also delighted that, as Polish institutions, we are playing an increasingly significant role in Europe,” said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, during the graduation ceremony held on 23rd June at the National Institute of Rural Culture and Heritage in Warsaw.

The event was also attended by Dr Marcin Kulasek (Minister of Science and Higher Education), Prof. Michał Kleiber (Chair of the Polish National Commission for UNESCO, Chair of the Higher Education Ranking Committee), Prof. Marek Gzik (State Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education), Marcin Iskra (Director-General of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education), Prof. Bogusław Smólski (Chair of the Board of the Perspektywy Educational Foundation), Katarzyna Antoniak (Director of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Digital Affairs), Prof. Jerzy Małachowski (Director of the National Centre for Research and Development), Prof. Robert Zakrzewski (Director of the Central Examination Board), Dr Agnieszka Muzyk (Director of the Regional Examination Board in Łomża), Dr Wojciech Karczewski (Director of the National Agency for Academic Exchange), Prof. Marek Safjan (former Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Honorary Chair of the Higher Education Ranking Committee). The guests were welcomed by Waldemar Siwiński, the initiator and director of the Perspektywy rankings.

The 17 best degree programmes

The ranking of academic universities is supplemented by lists of degree programmes and vocational colleges. The University of Warsaw ranks first amongst the institutions offering the best degree programmes in Poland. These 17 programmes include:

  • administration,
  • archaeology,
  • astronomy,
  • geography,
  • history,
  • journalism and communication,
  • economics,
  • finance and accounting,
  • computer science (MSc),
  • computer science and econometrics,
  • security studies,
  • mathematics,
  • environmental protection (jointly with the University of Gdańsk),
  • political science,
  • psychology (jointly with the Jagiellonian University),
  • sociology,
  • international relations.

The State Academy of Applied Sciences in Koszalin took the top spot in the ranking of vocational universities.

Perspektywy Ranking

The University Ranking Perspektywy presents academic and vocational higher education institutions, both public and private, and the 76 degree programmes they offer. It is published by the Perspektywy Educational Foundation, and its preparation is overseen by a panel chaired by Prof. Michał Kleiber, former President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, comprising representatives from the academic community, institutions supporting innovation, the labour market and the publisher Elsevier.

 

The ranking is based on data concerning prestige, graduates’ prospects in the labour market, research potential and research output, innovation, teaching conditions and internationalisation.
