Students from the UW won four medals during the 31st ICPC Central Europe Regional Contest, the final of which took place on 7th December in Wrocław. Teams from the UW won four medals: one gold, two silver and one bronze. The gold medal was won by students from the UW’s Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics: Jan Gwiazda, Stanisław Karpiejczyk and Jerzy Olkowski. The UW2 team advanced to the International Collegiate Programming Contest, which will take place next year.

The 31st ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) Central Europe Regional Contest took place on 7th December at the Wrocław University Library. The competition was attended by 70 teams of three representing the best universities educating computer scientists from Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.

 

A total of 12 medals were awarded: 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze. Teams from the University of Warsaw won four. The gold medal was won by the UW2 team from the UW’s Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, composed of Jan Gwiazda, Stanisław Karpiejczyk and Jerzy Olkowski. The team solved 10 out of 12 tasks prepared by the organisers.

 

Medals were also won by:

  • UW6: Piotr Blinowski, Jakub Dziura, Dominik Wawszczak – silver medal, 6th place, 8 tasks,
  • UW1: Jeremi Hyska, Sylwia Sapkowska, Robert Soboński – silver medal, 8th place, 8 tasks,
  • UW3: Jakub Pniewski, Kamil Szymczak, Hubert Wasilewski – bronze medal, 9th place, 8 tasks.

The championship of the Central Europe Regional Contest was won by the team from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. The winners also solved 10 tasks, but achieved the best time.

 

Advancement to the European and world finals

The two best teams in the competition, UW2 from the University of Warsaw and Eötvös Loránd University, qualified directly for the 50th edition of the International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals (2026 ICPC World Finals), which will be held next year.

The championships in Wrocław also served as qualifiers for the 3rd European Collegiate Programming Championships, which will be held from 6th to 8th February in Warsaw. The 13 highest-ranked teams participating in the competition in Wrocław qualified for them, with one team representing each university.
