The University of Warsaw received the Elsevier Research Impact Leaders Award 2023. The award is given to universities whose research makes the greatest contribution to the perception of the Polish science worldwide. The UW won in the Natural Sciences category.

For the seventh time, the publishing company Elsevier has announced the winners of the Research Impact Leaders Award. The initiative aims to support research and scientific development. The award is presented to outstanding research institutions demonstrating the high quality of research and its internationalisation, as well as implementing strategic initiatives at national and international levels.

 

The Elsevier Research Impact Leaders Awards are presented in six categories (according to the OECD classification): Life Sciences/Agricultural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Three institutions were nominated in each of the categories. The University of Warsaw was honoured in Natural Sciences.

The winners in other categories were: Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (Humanities), SWPS University (Social Sciences), Gdańsk University of Technology (Engineering and Technology), University of Agriculture in Kraków (Life Sciences/Agricultural Sciences), and Wrocław Medical University (Medical Sciences).

 

The best universities were selected on the basis of an algorithm taking into account the percentage increase in the number of publications (weighting of 15%) and authors (weighting of 10%), citation index (weighting of 30%), international cooperation (weighting of 20%) and publications in Top 10 journals (weighting of 25%).

 

The Elsevier Research Award gala was held on 26th October in Łódź, during the plenary and presidium meeting of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland. The award was received by the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak.
