Topping-out ceremony on Bednarska Street

A new building for the University of Warsaw is under construction at Bednarska 2/4 in Warsaw; it will house, among others, the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies. The new premises will include specialist television, radio and photography studios, a modern Media Studies Research Laboratory. On 22nd June, a topping-out ceremony was held at the construction site.

Admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year

Admissions for first- and long-cycle studies, as well as some second-cycle studies, at the University of Warsaw are open until 9th July. The admissions offer includes over 300 degree programmes. The results will be announced on 22nd July.

New measures to ensure the safety of the UW community

“In all the University of Warsaw’s activities and initiatives, we always prioritise the safety of our community members,” says Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector. Over the past year, the University has introduced numerous measures in this area. These include the establishment of the Office for Security Affairs or the strengthening of the university Security Guard’s powers.

Applications for dormitories for current students

Applications for places in the University of Warsaw’s dormitories for the 2026/2027 academic year are now open. Students and doctoral candidates at the University of Warsaw are eligible to apply for accommodation. The first round – for current students – runs until 28th June. The second round – for newly admitted students – will take place in August.

Picnic for the UW Employees 2026

Team-building, fun and a chance to relax in the gardens of the University of Warsaw Library. On 12th June, the Picnic for the UW Employees took place for the seventh time. We are publishing a photo report from the event.

Summer courses and classes at the University of Warsaw

During the summer, the University of Warsaw offers a wide range of courses, classes, workshops and training programmes – aimed at both the academic community and people from outside the university.

Doctoral degree conferment ceremonies at the UW

On 13th June, a ceremony was held at the University of Warsaw Library to confer doctoral degrees on new doctoral graduates and to present letters of congratulations to habilitated doctors who had obtained their academic degrees in 2025.

Discovery of a Hellenistic temple

Researchers from the University of Warsaw and the University of Tirana have discovered the remains of a large Hellenistic temple within the site of an ancient city in northern Albania. This is the first Illyrian structure of its kind to be identified in this region and marks another breakthrough in research into the so-called “lost city”.

Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for Prof. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk

The President of the Republic of Poland, Dr Karol Nawrocki, has posthumously awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta to Prof. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk – Dean of the UW’s Faculty of Political Science and International Studies.

A doctoral candidate at the UW awarded with a SPIE scholarship

Bartosz Kasza, a doctoral candidate at the UW’s Faculty of Physics and a researcher at the UW’s Centre for New Technologies, has been awarded a prize by the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). The doctoral candidate from the UW is the sole representative of Polish universities amongst the 85 winners from around the world.

Centre for the Culture of Turkic Peoples at the UW

The Centre for the Culture of Turkic Peoples has been established at the University of Warsaw – the first centre of its kind at a European academic institution. The centre, established in collaboration with the Foundation for Turkic Culture and Heritage, will support research, education and intercultural dialogue relating to the cultures of the Turkic world.

Visit by the UW Rector to the USA

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, gave lectures at three prestigious American universities. The topics of the meetings at Stanford University, the University of California (Berkeley) and the University of California (San Francisco) centred on economic issues, EU matters and the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.

The UW is co-developing an AI system for Polish tourism

The University of Warsaw, together with the AGH University of Krakow, will carry out the MAPTur project. The result will be a state-of-the-art platform using artificial intelligence to monitor, analyse and forecast tourist traffic in Poland. The project was selected for funding in the 8th call for proposals under the INFOSTRATEG programme of the National Centre for Research and Development.

Collaboration between academia and industry for the benefit of patients

“Our primary focus remains on research, teaching and reflection, with the commercial application of these skills coming second. This kind of collaboration with a US company with a global reach is fantastic,” says Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak in an interview with ‘Rzeczpospolita’. The UW Rector and Justin Gandy, Managing Director of MSD Poland, discuss the recently signed memorandum of cooperation.

Welcome Meeting for new international UW employees

Welcome Point is organising a meeting for new international employees of the University of Warsaw, which will be held on 12th June at noon on the Ochota Campus. Participants will be introduced to the university’s structure and functioning, as well as the most important formalities related to living in Warsaw.
